Did you manage to renew your Virginia license with the NOA? We're also in Virginia, so my wife's license expires the same day as her GC.

I have been reading about this instance where people with temporary GC are having issues to renew their licenses. I am in the same boat as you, my wife's DL expires the same day as ger GC, here in GA they make them that way (matching expiration dates). But if we dont get approve before her DL expires I am one who is going to raise hell if they give me problems to renew her license with the NOA1. I would suggest to any person in this same situation to ask and talk to a supervisor and if they dont fix it, talk to someone above them, i.e. a district supervisor or something, because that NOA is as legit as a GC given the circumstances. So the fact that personel at the DMV are ignorant does not justify you or your spouses being deprived from the right to obtain their DL. It's as simple as stating that with no DL this person will be breaking the law by driving with an expired license. Plus if they keep that ignorant attitude ask for a written and signed document where they are denying you to give you a state document by ignoring a federal one like the NOA. I hope that we dont get to any of these uncomfortable situations, but if we are playing by the rules the others have to play by them as well... anyway, I get of my soap box. My wife got her Bio done on the 18th.

Good luck to everyone!!!

Yes...everybody was a little uncertain, I think, and I saw people referring to binders to make sure they were doing things right, and a supervisor had to be called to confirm what date to expire the new license: was it one year from the date on the green card or one year from the date on the NOA (they settled on one year from the date on the green card, which didn't worry me much one way or the other, since there was only 2 days difference in my case). But everybody found the information they needed to get me licensed.

I was fortunate that it was shortly before Christmas, and my local DMV was very quiet. I was in and out in 25 minutes: I didn't even have time to look at the reading I'd brought with me to pass the time. I was called to the counter before I'd finished filling out the form!

Probably the biggest hassle in my case was that my driver's license expired before I received the NOA, so I had to take the city bus to the DMV, since my wife was working. At least I didn't have to make any transfers between routes!

They made you fill out the form just like you were applying for the first time, right? That's the impression that I got from reading the DMV website.

Improved USCIS Form G-325A (Biographic Information)

Form field input font changed to allow entry of dates in the specified format and to provide more space for addresses and employment history. This is the 6/12/09 version of the form; the current version is 8/8/11, but previous versions are accepted per the USCIS forms page.

Yes, that's right. Because you can't renew a limited-duration license, and that's all you can get unless you're a citizen or have a ten-year green card. Coming from Ontario where driver's licenses were so expensive, it feels fun to pay my $4 for a one-year license...but I'm ready to deal with the DMV less often. Can't wait to have a "regular" license that lasts for several years.

I think I've read that it's based on the backlog/availability of biometrics appointments through the local office. In my case, it was almost a month after my NOA date when I received my biometrics letter. My appointment is for two months after my NOA date, which is longer than what most of the December filers have had to wait, and I was early in December.

So I wouldn't be worried quite yet, but if you get to a month out from the NOA date, that's when I'd start thinking about calling.

Thanks for that -- it's particularly helpful, since you're in the same city as me!

There have been some items not arriving in the mail lately, which is worrying me a little. I'll wait another week or so before I give USCIS a call though.

Yeah, I think I made a similar post about a day before my biometrics letter arrived, because it seemed like everybody else had a date but me. The next day's mail had my letter. Hope that means you'll have news tomorrow.

Yep -- it took a long while for my appointment to come through. I think a lot of the reason is because Norfolk, VA is the seat of the U.S. Navy -- the largest Naval base in the world. I can only imagine that a LOT of immigration stuff goes through the local office.

So Together-forever, if you're feeling worried about it, it can't hurt to call. But sometimes it can take awhile for the biometrics to get scheduled.

It does surprise me, though, because when I went for my biometrics appointment for adjusting status and then went this past week (both in Norfolk), the place has always been dead: a huge space, and never been busy that I've seen. Maybe they need to schedule more appointments per day.

Thank you for adding me to the list. My filing date of I-751 was 12/07/2011, if you would like to add this.

My local office is in Tampa, FL. I have called USCIS on Friday, they opened a Service Request and said I should hear back from them within 15 days.

So let's wait and see!
