A question here for the experienced members: I am the beneficiary, a French citizen.

I spent about 4 years living and working in Turkey, and came back to my home country more than 2 years ago. Is this past experience of living abroad going to cause any difficulty at some point in the process (appart from the police certificate from Turkey I'm already fighting hard for...)? Would it be what you call a "red flag" at embassy stage?

I'm in "worry mood" today...

I'm so happy I need to share the positive news with you: I talked to my city's Turkish consulate AGAIN, and they seem to have actually cared enough to look into the process this time, rather than giving me the easy "we can't do that" answer, so I have to go one morning next week to apply for a police record! Finally! Getting things moving on this side!

The answer to both of your questions: No. With that being said, a CO might ask you about it so just be ready to answer any questions about it.

Just received my packet today but they received our petition from USCIS on Nov. 25th..

packet? what does that mean? is the USCitizen Spouse interacting with NVC Human, after the 25th of November?

define 'packet' for us, please. [are you reading LingChe's shortcuts, btw?]

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

The answer to both of your questions: No. With that being said, a CO might ask you about it so just be ready to answer any questions about it.

Well the answers will be easy: I wanted to experience life in another country with a different culture, I was fascinated by the city of Istanbul (still am), and I had the opportunity to work for a big multi-national company.

That's great news!

Yeah, finally something encouraging on this subject!

So your wife is arriving tomorrow?? Big day in a few hours!

So NVC has not yet received our file. But we got the NoA2 hard copy today! They realized I have middle names this time, there's the initial of the first one. In NoA1 there was nothing but my first and last names.

Anyone in here?

I've got 3 quick questions:

- in DS230, question Have you ever been to the US, do I include a trip I made when I was 14 years old? I know the year but I really don't remember the exact dates.

- what do you write in visa type when travelling without a visa on VWP?

- when exactly do you get your alien number? I thought it was going to be on NOA2, but it isn't.

@Laure&Colin - Dunno about the first two but the answer to your third question is you get your alien number when you get your green card.

Gosh, I've been so stressed about something that I completely forgot to make a December NVC thread headbonk.gif Thanks Ryan for creating this one! laughing.gif

I'm a little confused about the NVC process. I was assuming I would have several months to do my research but my i-130 was approved in 15 days! Woohoo--headscratch.

My question... Is USCIS and NVC separate entities? I will be moving back to the US soon (will have to leave the hubby behind). I am not sure who to change my address with. If I update that information on my account with USCIS, does it transfer to NVC? Or must I somehow contact NVC to get this changed (booo for 15 hour time difference)???

And how does NVC make initial contact? Email? Snail mail? Or is it standard procedure to call them directly for case numbers and such?

Wow, 15 days blink.gif Grats.

Yes, USCIS and NVC are different "entities". If your case has been approved, then I'd suggest, once able to, update your address with NVC. I'll explain in a bit how you can do that.

I'd suggest calling NVC every single day to get your case number. It might be a few weeks. It's been taking around 3 weeks from I-130 approval to get it. Once you do have your case number, tell the NVC operator both your email address and your spouse's. By doing that, then all correspondence from NVC will be done by email, and not snail mail which takes much, much longer to receive.

Then, once you do have your case number, you can email NVC, telling them of your new address. In the subject line, put your case number. In the body, include the following of both the petitioner AND beneficiary: full name, birth date, and email address. Then, below this, say that you recently moved. Include your old address (and identifying it as your old address). Then mention your new address (again, identify it as your new address). After sending this email, you should get a response within a few days from NVC saying they updated your information. Then make sure you have your new address on both the I-864 and DS-230. And then you'll be good :)

And another one... What is the bare minimum to submit with the i-864? I am living abroad, thus ineligible to sponsor my husband. And I sort of forgot to file last years return--oopps. But I've done that now. Anyways, I will have my aunt sponsor him who earns several times the minimum threshold. Is her tax file return transcripts from the past 3 years sufficient? Or does she need a letter from her employer stating her pay/employment? Just trying to make this as easy as possible for all involved :)

Thank you for that. This is such a complicated process with so many players--I wish I could revamp the entire process for USCIS. Wouldn't it be nice if EVERYTHING could be done in one step? When I applied for my fiancee visa to Australia, I sent everything (all 7 lbs of paperwork) at the same time--this included police reports, relationship evidence, AOS evidence, visa application, everything. I didn't hear anything from anyone for months but it was much easier doing that and just waiting 6 months to hear 'granted' at the end of it!
