Hi Saylin,

Happy new year!

I need help in our I-864. Particularly in Part 5 (Sponsor's household size). Here goes:

21. Your Household Size - DO NOT COUNT ANYONE TWICE

Persons you are sponsoring in this affidavit:

a. Enter the number you entered on line 10 ---- 1 (that's me, the wife)

Persons NOT sponsored in this affidavit:

b. Yourself --- 1

c. If you are currently married, enter "1" for your spouse --- 0 (should I put 0 on this item? I already counted myself in Item "a" above?)

d. If you have dependent children, enter the number here ---- 1 (I have 1 child with the petitioner as the biological father) But the child is also on a separate petition.

So, the total household size is ---- 3.

Is this correct? Please help.

Thank you very much!

Hey!

Be careful, we had an RFE after sending certified copies of our marriage certificate and beneficiary birth certificate. They have requested we send originals, which we now have.

In Australia there is a public position called 'Justice of the Peace'. This person has a stamp and can sign colour photocopies to say that the document is appears to be a true copy of the government issued document. This is satisfactory for most things within Australia and was ok for the I-130, however, for the CR1 application, they do require Originals.

Have a look at this website: http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3195.html

Under the birth certificate section it says that all Immigrant visa applications require 'long form orginal'. I suggest you send originals, if we had, we would have been approved by now!

Good luck!

So were your certificates a photocopy that you made and had certified as valid by the justice of the peace (i guess our equivalent of a regiatrar?) or were they duplicate copies the government printed for you?

Both our certified marriage certificate and his certified birth certificate were issued by the authority that issued the originals (City of Leeds and State of Texas) with all the stamps and such that they normally do, but they say they're certified copies.... Anyone had any problems with similar documents?

Thanks for the heads up!

Good story!!

Unfortunately I tend to speak to obnoxious operators most of the time... Last time, my husband called, it was Friday, so a whole month since NoA2, and the guy dared to tell him : "it's only been 9 business days sir". :ranting:

Hoping for a case # this week!

I am hoping sometime this week tooo.....Its a whole month since NOA 2 TODAY.I call NVC again and they just keep asking me to check back .Check back......This is frustrating

Yes absolutely Saylin! Before the security check a lady officer asked me about my passport, appointment letter and DHL confirmation page. Thanks to you (F) I had printed the DHL page because you told me to do so. She was not letting others to get in if they didn't have the copy of a DHL confirmation page.

My interview was taken by another lady Consular Officer. She asked me 3 questions, such as 1. How did you two meet? 2. Where does your husband works? and 3. How did he immigrate to US? Then she gave me the welcome letter and wished both of us a happy life together and a happy new year!  I will be updating my profile with the detailed interview experience shortly.

I hope to get my passport stamped and mailed to me in a couple of days!

Saylin could you please suggest me the best way to transfer my stuffs from Toronto to New Jersey? I will have a couple of suitcases, and 3to4 46-56-33 size boxes which has my kitchen stuffs, books and other belongings.

Oh wow, they actually asked for the DHL confirmation page? That's new. I brought mine just in case. Apparently they changed it recently cause you're the first Montreal review I've seen mentioning that they required the DHL confirmation. Good to know.

Was the interviewing officer a blonde? Cause I had a blonde lady who was extremely nice and had no problems with.

And I hope you get your passport back soon!

I'm not sure if it's a viable option for you, but this is what I did to move my stuff from Montreal to South Dakota: I packed my dad's car with all my boxes (had no furniture), went through the border with my dad, and headed to Burlington, Vermont where I had a rental car waiting for me. We then moved all my boxes from my dad's car and put them in the rental. The only reason I had my rental in the US instead of Canada because there were only like one or two car rental companies that actually allowed cross-border rentals and dropping it off at my destination, but the price was about 3 times as much as just renting from the US. So, I'd suggest looking for car rentals both in Toronto and western New York and choose the best price. If you have any more questions, I'd be glad to help as always :)

Hey Saylin..Thanks for the response. Yeaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh I just got my Passport with the CR1 visa on it.

The interviewer was a lady of Afro-American origin with long cornrowed (braided) hairstyle. She was serious-looking but nice.

When I was replying to her questions, she was constantly staring at my Hubby. I think she was observing the body language...but my Hubby says that probably that officer liked him so much that she didn't ask me any further questions and I was approved

By-the-way, am I be allowed to carry 4 big suitcases and 4 boxes in my husband's car if he drives from New Jersey to pick me up?

Oh, I think I've heard of that interviewing officer as well. Glad everything went so smoothly for you as well :)

And yup that's fine about the suitcases and boxes. Just make a list of everything you're bringing. Doesn't have to be exact, but simple like:

Box 1 - books

Box 2 - kitchen stuff

Suitcase 1 - clothes

Etc etc

And just to make sure, you'd be going with your husband across the border with your belongings, right?

Yes Saylin! I am planning to go across the border with my hubby.

If at the POE they will allow me to carry the suitcases and boxes, it will be much easier for us. But I have read somewhere that it is not advisable to carry all your belongings at the time of POE. Please, suggest your view on this or is there any phone no where I can call up and ask.

Alright, good that you'll be travelling with your husband and belongings. It would have been harder if you weren't.

Why wouldn't you be able to carry all your belongings with you? I really don't understand where you've heard that as you're MOVING. Of course you're going to have all your stuff with you.
