This is why it is up to us to prove that we are in a bonified relationship. Obviously, it is still too easy to get a Visa in some cases or they wouldn't have been able to actively get these women into the country. The women are being exploited and are the victims in this.

This was online today...

NEW YORK (AP) — A mob-run ring that lured women from Russia and other Eastern European countries with the promise of waitressing jobs — only to send them to dance at New York strip clubs — was shut down Wednesday after 20 people were charged, including seven purported members of organized crime families, authorities said.

Prosecutors said members of the Gambino and Bonnano organized crime families were swept up in arrests aimed at closing an operation that recruited the women and then arranged for many of them to enter into sham marriages with U.S. citizens so they could stay in the country and continue to work as exotic dancers at adult entertainment clubs.

Authorities say the four strip clubs in Queens and Long Island were controlled by the mob families, and their owners were forced to make payments in exchange for protection, which included the resolution of disputes among strip clubs over which dancers work where and over ownership interests in certain clubs.

Homeland Security Investigations special-agent-in-charge James Hayes said the arrests "bring to an end a long-standing criminal enterprise operated by colluding organized crime entities that profited wildly through a combination of extortion and fraud."

He said the defendants used intimidation and threats of physical and economic harm to control their businesses and protect their turf.

"Today, that business model has been extinguished," Hayes said.

Charges in the case included racketeering, extortion, visa fraud, marriage fraud and transporting, harboring and inducing the entry of illegal aliens.

Oh yes, but that is sometimes do not sink in until a you are hit by a huge rock. There are surely signs there in the past but you tend to ignore it and think it's just some challenge that needs to overcome.

For Foreigners: How sure we are that we are not getting married because my partner just want some trophy wife, servant, or maybe later kill me for insurance claim?

For Americans: How sure are you that's it's really love and not for green card?

Some Americans just say "She used me for green card." If the marriage fails right away without even contemplating if they've done something wrong too. :innocent:

It's just an observation. Purely hypothetical questions based on immigration horrors in the past. I am not pertaining to anyone here in the forum. No one needs to be defensive here. I don't know any of you.

I read that article this morning, but I smell more than one rat in this kitchen. Who would want to come to the US on the promise of getting a waitressing job? It's also much more common in a forced labor situation for the employer to NOT help the worker resolve their immigration status. Once the girls get their green cards then the employer has little they can use to pressure them. The sham marriages are a strong clue to me that these girls knew exactly what they were getting into. Mobsters are usually pretty smart about the way they run their enterprises. They don't leave incriminating evidence, and they don't leave witnesses who could testify against them without incriminating themselves. If the girls were truly innocent victims with inside knowledge of the scam then that would seem like a huge loose end - not exactly the way the mob usually does business. Not to mention that girls who are forced to work as strippers usually make bad strippers.

I strongly suspect the government offered the girls immunity in return for their testimony. It would be really ironic if they offered them a shot at a T or U visa in return for their cooperation. Federal law enforcement agencies have a nasty habit of dangling these visas in front of illegal immigrants with a questionable moral background, only to renege after the prosecution has been finished.

I thought about mkat when I read this article.

Even though I am responding to the OP, I am addressing this to the general thread...

I used to work with domestic violence victims and we also had some trafficking victims. If a woman is desperate to support herself and her family she might take some risks on something she wouldn't normally be comfortable with. I have known some women to be snookered by some pretty obvious things because they were "in love". I also used to work with the people who prey on these victims and there are some criminals who were pretty darn smooth and could talk you into about anything. Don't be so sure these women knew what they were getting into. Either way I don't think anyone should blame the victim.

I am so glad you posted this. I have a big space in my heart for immigrants who come here to chase a dream just to have an American abuse them. I have worked with many immigrant women who have experienced this and it breaks my heart. Other Americans need to stand up and fight against this. It truly is a symptom of what is wrong with our immigration process, too.

I tend to agree. The FSU is full of smokin hot women and many of them are just pleased as can be to use their female features to make a lot of $$$. Middle eastern men love them and the strip clubs are full of them in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, etc.. Ghadafi had Ukrainian "nurses". The old KGB "Sparrow School" which taught women how to use seduction to get secrets was taken over and now operates as a private school and there is a long waiting list to train professional prostitutes...highly prized in rich Arab oil country.

No doubt they played right along to make big bucks here.

FWIW I will always demand my right to be exploited by hot foreign women, though Alla may have something to say about it now.

What's this have to do with a K1 and/or CR1 visa? I'm guessing these "guest workers" got another sort of visa that has nothing to do with proving a "bonafied relationship" with a USC. It's like trying to compare apples with oranges.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Certainly has nothing to do with K-1 visas.

Agree with Gary, Russian girls are highly prized as strippers all over the world for obvious reasons.
