TMI

You think anyone wants to hear about your old wrinkly as$ sleeping with your wife naked? Yet you continue to brag about it. The thought of a social security aged man and his exploits is beyond TMI for most people.

I have no plans of going to school, collecting welfare, etc.. I'm trying to make a point. I know for a fact people of color get a near free ride for their entire schooling, Alaskan natives do get a free ride for all their schooling. And I know for a fact good people including firemen, pipe fitters, electricians, etc... have lost out on job opportunistic do to Affirmative Action and employers having to make a "quota" whether it be to a woman or person of color who was not as qualified for said job. In fact some of them had zero qualifications yet were hired anyways to make said quota.

Small business loans "SBA, is another joke that needs to be revamped and/or done away with imo. I'm tired of my tax dollars going to programs that do nothing for me other than help fck me when it comes to putting a roof over my families head and food in their bellies.

Native Americans are not subsidized based on skin color. You know that already. I know your trying to make a point, but at the same time you live in the most subsidized state in the union so your point seems a little bit hollow. I was hoping you could reconcile that.

And the biggest part of the reason we are the most subsidized state in the union is because of the Native Americans here. Free houses, free medical, free everything. My wife just flew back today from Pilot Point, Alaska. She spent a week down there with the dental team doing required freebie dental work for the natives there. The population of Pilot Point is 83 people according to wiki...she says they are lucky if it's 50 people there.

Let's see now. 3 people...two dental assistants and one dentist, an extra flight for gear and a weeks stay there working 12 hour days...over time for a measly 50 people. Cost of the trip ...I have no idea but I do know that the charter flights there don't come cheap, neither does the new medical clinic built there last year, or the new school, nor the new runway new HUD houses...all on the US tax payers dime. 100% on the US tax payers. Dental teams, medical teams, optical...all for free. That's one village out of over 50 that they service in this small part of Alaska. It's like that all over the state. When they want to fly into Anchorage to see a doctor...it's all for free. If I or my wife want to see a doctor in Anchorage...it's $500 per person R/T plus cab fare and hotel. It's all free for the natives. Natives want a commercial boat for fishing along with license ...np for them. No interest loans that are forgiven after 7 years.

So you say Alaska is the most subsidized state in the union...you betcha. Do these natives actually work for a living? Hardly any of them seeing how the government hands them everything for free. Oh and all their college is FREE. No matter where the school is at...NYC, or Alaska..they don't pay a dime for schooling. Must be nice eh.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

So you personally don't get anything???

What would I get? I'm white. I have nothing coming to me. They (the city of Dillingham) paid for my moving here to this village of pop 2,200 to run the city maintenance dept. for the fact they couldn't find anyone here capable or willing to do it. You have to remember that our native population in this town is 86+% so finding someone who will show up for work after getting a paycheck isn't so easy. Same with my wife and most all the workers at her hospital. White people from somewhere else doing work that natives won't do even though they get free training for it. Again...why should they ever work if everything is handed to them? What would be the motivation for them to work?

Oh good. I thought you really believed they were better. :bonk: OK, I get it.

The only one who cares if women from one country are "better" than women from other countries is you. It validates your life choices, and apparently they need a lot of validation.

Nothing from the permanent fund then?

That's not all Gary is apparently in need of

I'm sure Trompe le Monde could elaborate if Gary wanted ;)

We all get that. It's oil money. This year it was something like $1,200 per person. That's chicken feed and again it's oil money for everyone living in the state of Alaska. It's not a government hand out seeing how that pipeline is owned by the people of the state of Alaska. It's not a handout, freebie from the Feds, etc... google it. In fact it has nothing at all to do with the Feds. It's tax money from the oil companies using our pipeline to move their oil so that they can sell it for billions of dollars.

What the natives here get is 100% FREE on the US tax payers dime. That's all US tax payers seeing how the BIA is a Fed program and not a local one.

I have no problem with that, but then it's kind of hypocritical to complain about others getting freebies.

He's referring to me collecting unemployment. I don't know how it works where you live, but here in Alaska you have to work to receive unemployment benefits. It's not uncommon for people like me (construction workers) who work seasonal jobs to collect unemployment. When we work, we work 7 days a week, a min. of 84.5 hours a week (12 hours a day) but a lot of times I will put in well over 100 - 120 hours per week working outside doing construction and/or pipe line maintenance in sometimes -50 or even colder temps. So I don't feel bad about drawing unemployment seeing how it's all part of the life in this line of work. In fact it's common in all states for people that work construction and/or seasonal employment.

Triple post ftw. meh. Anyways back to Fed money subsidizing Alaska. Here's another example of people not paying their fare share. The Bypass Main Program for Alaska cost an est. $70,000,000 per year. It's meant for people living out here in the Bush, but seeing how Bush Alaska consist of an est Alaskan native population of 95+% we know who benefits the most from this Federal handout. This article doesn't even mention the new US post offices built in villages with no more than 100 or even less people that's only way of travel to and from is by plane. It's not cheap and it's not free. Yet the US tax payers are footing the bill for this program also.

Inspector general seeks changes to bypass mail system

REPORT: Proposals include having the state reimburse Postal Service.

JUNEAU -- The U.S. Postal Service watchdog is calling for changes to Alaska's bypass mail program, saying it has evolved past its original purpose and seems to help commercial interests more than rural residents.

The program has come under scrutiny, with the agency struggling financially and a U.S. House bill calling for Alaska to pay the estimated $70 million cost for bypass mail.

Alaska's congressional delegation has railed against the House bill, calling postal service a guaranteed right. A Congressional Research Service memo, requested by Sen. Lisa Murkowski, said the bill might be unconstitutional, "commandeering" Alaska to pass a law to pay for the service.

But the agency's inspector general, in a paper released Monday, said it is time for changes to the program.

"The Postal Service cannot afford to subsidize a service that has expanded beyond its original purpose and does not appear essential to the Postal Service's mission to bind the nation together through the provision of reliable, affordable, universal mail service," the paper states.

Bypass mail allows goods to be flown from Anchorage and Fairbanks to communities not on the road system. It was established in 1972 as a "mutually beneficial solution" between the agency and air carriers to remove bottlenecks at mail facilities and improve service, the inspector general's office said.

The Congressional Research analysis said the major players in the program are the Postal Service, the carriers and the U.S. Transportation secretary, who sets the rates based on costs incurred by the carriers. But the inspector general's office said the agency's main role is paying the bills and it has little control over any other aspect of the program.

The office proposes seven changes that it said could help the program meet its original goals in a "more cost effective and appropriate way." Those suggestions include having the state or federal government reimburse the Postal Service for program-related losses; allowing the Postal Service to negotiate rates directly with airlines, as it does elsewhere; and changing the law to strike restrictions on new carriers. It also suggests removing the Postal Service from the equation and ceding the program to the private sector.

"Without at least some of these changes or others, the Postal Service will continue to suffer significant losses on the Alaska Bypass program at a time when it can least afford it," the paper states.

Murkowski, in a September newspaper op-ed piece, said the program is an "efficient answer to Alaska's challenging mail routes," saving the Postal Service from having to pay for facilities, labor and equipment to sort and send packages. Sen. Mark Begich has said the program is critical in rural Alaska and helps communities get the same universal service other Americans receive.

The inspector general's paper states that residents "no longer appear to derive a proportional benefit" from what is essentially a freight service and are still stuck paying premiums for many goods, including groceries. Rural merchants reap benefits from having supplies delivered to their doors at a "very low price," but with little or no competition, they have little incentive to pass on savings to consumers, the paper states.

It says the program discourages the state from "providing appropriate infrastructure," saying the state is often slow to start highway expansion projects that could decrease fuel, freight and mail transport costs.

Murkowski, who was traveling Monday and had staff analyze the report, said she questioned whether the report was "worth the paper it was written on." Some suggestions don't make sense, she said, like charging priority mail rates instead of parcel post rates because the mail is sent by air. That ignores the fact that there are no roads to the serviced communities and everything must be sent by air, she said. Alaskans, though, need to be looking at ways to reduce the program's cost and she said that's happening.

Begich, who also was traveling in the state Monday, included a link on his Facebook page in which Alaskans could weigh in on the inspector general's report and what he called "some out-of-touch changes" proposed to the program.
