If there is no need for them that's good. They have acheived what they set out to do. If there is no need for them, I suspect they will either slowly fade out of existence or be pushed to the margin, just as with any ohter organization that is no longer needed.

Any organization that hands out free money will not fade out of existence. There may not be a need... but there will always be a want!

FYI, while the UNCF was founded to address the lack of educational opportunities for African Americans, the scholarships they administer are open to anyone.

Why don't you post the numbers on how many scholarships are given out to white kids by the UNCF?

Even though I was more qualified than the other applicants I still got beat out by "people of color" on some good jobs due to Affirmative Action. Seeing how I didn't get those jobs (even though I had better qualifications), I'm going to have to resort to food stamps, welfare, robbery, selling crack, and pimping out my RUB wife. :(

Livin the dream!

I often aks black people if they think the good reverand's dream has been realized. If they truly are free at last. What kills me about their answer is individually, they're very cognizant of the situation, even pointing the finger at the underlying causes. But for some reason, they just can't seem to shake the stigma of doing something about it. Someone who's a good father to his children can't help but make sure they still have $140 Jordans on their little feet. Can't help but pick them up from school in a car with wheels that costs more than his health insurance for those children.

Very, very seldom do I find a black man who is willing to not only admit why his brothas are hurting around him, but willing to take a stand and set the example. "I don't need spinnin rims. I need to invest in a 401k so my kids can have something when I pass on."

Until that changes, the "racism" will always be present. What America won't admit is the vast majority of it comes from blacks themselves.

In order to eliminate racism (and terrorism, whatever other "ism" is out there) there has to be true equality. True equality is not "let me give you extra help so you're equal" it's "this is the scenario now you figure out what to do about it."

It's sickening to me that we subsidize the demise of an entire race of people. If we truly wanted to help black people or any other people we'd give them the opportunity to help themselves and take away the opportunity to shun their own personal responsibility.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Or why don't you? You're the one who claimed they are racist. Back that up.

You can't see their inherent racism from their name alone?

Here are some facts for you - there are more poor white people in the US than poor black people. Why don't we have a United Caucasian College Fund?

Any organization that hands out free money will not fade out of existence. There may not be a need... but there will always be a want!

For example:

Congressional Black Caucus

Funding

In February 2010, The New York Times reported the caucus received 55 million dollars in contributions from corporations between 2004 and 2008. Most of that money went to social events and the organization's headquarters building on Embassy Row. In 2007, it paid more to the caterer for a single event than it spent on scholarships.[12] Scholarships controlled by the caucus were a source of public concern in September 2009 when it was reported Sanford Bishop and other members directed the money to members of their families and political cronies.

The Times compared the amount of money spent on internships by the caucus ($378,000 in 2008) to the amount paid for the decorator of its annual prayer breakfast that year ($350,000).[12]

This from arguably the most upright black leaders in the country.

:lol::lol::lol:

When your "leaders" are people like Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Oprah and Obama it's no wonder you end up with stuff like this. What's worse is the requirement to shun folks with proven leadership skills. People like Colin Powell, Condoleezza Rice..... Herman Cain.

Couple that with the additional requirement to watch every Tyler Perry movie ever made and before you know it, you have an entire class of people who not only don't understand what's happened to them... they want more!

(And now I'm talking about white people too. Jerry! Jerry! Jerry!)

I see, so discrimination is OK as long as a few people think it's OK for that group to be discriminatory.

So a LARGE - NATION WIDE group can discriminate because some people think it's OK, but when a small local church does it, it's a crime. Yup, got it.

I don't think you do see Paul, and once again I have to respond to you by saying I'm not sure where you got that from. That's not what I posted.

What I did say is anyone is free to start a group. Go ahead and start a group for the advancement of white people if you want. You have that right.

I'm familiar with the standard definition of racism. I don't see anything racist in the name. Do you?

Why don't we have a United Caucasian College Fund?

Start one up. As you said, people are always happy to take the free money.

I wanted to go back to school to learn a new trade that would keep me in today's work force but that wasn't possible due to the cost. If only I qualified for all those government educational freebies that people of color qualify for. :(

There are plenty of privately funded grants and scholarships out there, you should look into them instead of relying upon the government to pay for your education.

The government foots a super large chunk of the bill for people of color so why can't I have the same in respect? What makes them so special that they are entitled to more help from the US tax payer than say someone like myself?

Which specific minority geared programs are you talking about? I am being serious, there are a lot of privately funded scholarships and grants, that actually get their money from the federal or state government for education. There are many other merit based programs for all students, but there are many restrictions that might actually exclude you from consideration.

I am against race based quotas, but I don't see anything wrong with helping out poor and underprivelaged kids who are can't afford to pay tuition. I don't know how much you make, but given the fact that you can take 6 months off and not work, I would assume you make a comfortable living, which would also exclude you from consideration for many programs.

True enough. Alla scored a 50% private grant at her university and started classes 5 days after arriving in the US, and she is seriously WHITE. All she needed was an SS number and proof she was legally present in the US, it was all arranged before she got here. We never got a nickle from the government!

Glad to see more people recommending not being dependent on government.

truthfully Kip, there is tons of money available especially from smaller private colleges that often have pretty good funding but little demand. You just have to do a lot of legwork, a lot of which you can do on the internet now. Seriously, if you want to go to college and you have fairly good intelligence, you can go to school free or very cheap somewhere and at pretty darn good schools! Private colleges often have more funds available

Seriously, Sergey has excellent grades and excellent references and Dartmouth acted like they would have kicked their grandmother out of the way to get at him! Tuition, room and board, stipend, you name it. Assistantship for one of the professors even! I just hope he doesn't decide to be a professional student!

Didn't cost us anything.

Kip if you want to further yor education, you can.
