Hi everyone! Both my wife and I just regained our Filipino citizenship and are planning on moving to the Philippines in January 2012. We are wondering if we still need to apply for Philippine passports in order to buy one way tickets to the Philippines. Can someone help us? My wife is currently pregnant and is due mid December and we'd like to know if the baby needs a Philippine passport as well. We'd love to leave by January 2012 but the current Phil passport processing time is 8 weeks. Thank you so much!

I found this link that says dual citizens can carry two passports and essentially live, work, and travel freely within their native and naturalized countries (please see link below)

http://www.newcitizen.us/dual.html

I suggest you call the nearest Philippine Embassy for clarification.

These links might also be helpful. Goodluck!

Thank you! We are actually dual citizens already but just needed to know if we also need a Philippine passport to travel to the Philippines with a one-way ticket. So as long as we have our US passport, proof of dual citizenship, and old Philippine passport we wouldn't have any problems entering Phils?

Thanks mod! Anyone else who can shed some insight on this?

Reading on the Philippine website - http://www.philippineembassy-usa.org/philippines-dc/consular-services-dc/faq-dc/#dual

If you HAVE NOT reaffirmed your citizenship and travel to the Philippines you need a roundtrip ticket.

Looks like if you carry the proper documentation a roundtrip ticket won't be required. - there you have my humble opinion.

As far as I know, the rule is (for non-Philippine citizens), proof of a return ticket is required to enter the country (in order to ensure compliance with visa/length of stay restrictions). In all actuality however, I have never heard of Philippine immigration officers asking to see one.

As a citizen of both the U.S. and the Philippines, you are not required to secure a visa nor are you subject to any length-of-stay restrictions, and therefore, do not need a return ticket.

However, not yet having a valid/unexpired Philippine passport, you will have to present your U.S. passport upon entering the Philippines, in which they will, of course, stamp it with a visa which will indicate a "Stay Until" date.

Essentially, you will probably just have to enter the Philippines as a U.S. citizen. But if you leave the Philippines and any questions arise as to over-staying, you'd simply need to present your Philippine passport (which, I'm assuming, you'd have by then).

I am also a dual-citizen and only show my U.S. passport when I travel to the Philippines and never get asked to see a return ticket. I do, however, keep my Philippine passport handy in case any problems arise. I'm sure you know how complicated Philippine bureaucracy can be (I've figured out that explaining yourself in detail--even if it's the truth--can actually make things MORE complicated over there...compared to just keeping quiet until they ask you questions), so in my opinion, you should just keep things simple and just show your U.S. passport when you enter the Philippines, and if your unlucky enough that they ask to see a return ticket, just show them your proof of citizenship and explain your situation.

The baby should be ok with just a U.S. passport. I would, however, that you complete and mail a "Registration of Birth" to the Philippine embassy and wait for the confirmation letter (in case any problems arise at immigration) as proof of the baby's Philippine citizenship.

It only takes about a week (in my case, it was just a few days) to do this and it was all done through the mail.
