INS Making it up as they go along?

I expect a formal service inquiry in writing upon my request. My right and what they are required to do when they fall out of guideline. Wouldn't it be nice to tell the bank you do not owe a penalty because I don't have my payment yet and I am changing the due date. That is what they are doing. Do you see what I am getting at? They are not living up to their obligation and giving the runaround as to why.

No their not. You are latching onto this "5 months" like a dog with a bone ... only it is an imaginary bone. Would you feel better if they changed their "prediction" to 8 months? Then you would settle back down...

Tnx Hank and Amy for seeing the comic relief I was trying to provide. I do sure hope that this little vent and rant by the OP is not a sign of a larger problem he may have....his dance with USCIS is just beginning......and I do pray it's not indicative of a trait that may damage his relationship and one that his fiance already knows about.

I predict he'll get his approval in short order, with no prediction from USCIS and then he'll rant about the NVC wait and then something will come up with her interview or medical and he'll go off again....but then eventually they will get together and he will totally change into the pussycat that his fiance only knows. It's only normal....many of us have been there, done that. Hopefully this helps to strengthen his relationship and not damage it.

As of Nov 22, my i29f app was 5 months in processing. The Goal set by INS and the day I could initiate a service inquiry (finally have someone check what the hold up is). I call on that day, they give me the run around and finally inform me that they can not initiate a service inquiry because target is no longer 5 months. They now have a target date of June 16th apps and they will only do service requests for apps received prior to June 16th. It has been 7 days since I was told this and that should make target date now June 23rd. I called this morning to start my service inquiry and was told target date is still June 16th. WTH?! Do they make this up as they go along. Is this how they make sure there is no recourse for tax paying American Citizens when they don't do there job? What good is are these targets if they keep changing them?

I called 12 days ago. I got an email 6 days ago saying my case was being adjucated and we should get some kind of decision in the next 30 days. My noa1 date is June 16th. Hope my approval comes soon so they can do yours?

They never were any good for anything. They are "targets", they set them, they change them. I am guessing if they made the target sooner you would be OK with that and would not question their ability to do so.

You are engaged to a person that requires the permission of the Federal government in order to marry them and bring them here to live. That requires a process which you paid to enter knowing there was no guarantee of how long it will take.

The service inquiry will result in a response saying to check again in 60 days. You will probably be approved before then.

My goodness, I had no idea what how much interest my rant would generate. I admit, I’m here for one reason and yes I am frustrated. Good for any of you that have sooo much patience. I envy your wisdom and knowledge you share here. Your insight into other people’s business is just so wonderful and up lifting. You all should definitely become VJ spokespeople since you have so much wisdom and empathy. You can defiantly shed some light into the lives of total strangers.

Sorry that I forced so many of you to listen to me. I have to admit, I never paid attention to any of your cases. Just a few words of encouragement to some other random users. Perhaps I should learn from you and lay some knowledge on them as well.

As for the 5 month thing, I believe in accountability for your words and actions. Guess you have taught me a lesson there too. You are all so wonderful. I now know to let government agencies do as they please.

Haha, anyway… hope no one is offended by my sarcasm. Don’t really want to hurt or single out anyone. I find satisfaction in better things. I have a blessed life and yes, INS is my only big issue so I made a big deal of it. If my dissatisfaction with INS bothers you, perhaps you should just ignore me. =P

Just remember, this is the EASY part.

And it is the US Citizenship and Immigration Service (CIS) not "INS" You will be dealing with them a lot over the next 4 years or so.

I work in a government job and if immigration is anything like what I do... I am overloaded beyond all imagination. I constantly get phone calls, emails, letters from clients, their attorneys, supervisors, supervisors of supervisors, other professionals asking when something is going to be done. If I didn't have to respond to all those phone calls, emails, letters from clients, their attorneys, supervisors, supervisors of supervisors, other professionals I could probably get things done twice as fast. My goal is to return phone calls, etc. within 24-48 hours but some days people get more harried and I am even more bombarded by contact and maybe a problem or twenty pops up and suddenly my goal changes to returning contact within 72 or more hours. Goals are flexible sometimes because you never know what might pop up to interfere with your workload.

I think we all get frustrated beyond reason with this process and each have our own peeves. Mine are the people who decide to file on a whim and then drop it midstream. They bog it down for the rest of us. There is nothing I or you or anyone else can do to really hurry things up. There are people on here who have been waiting alot longer than you and are also tax-paying US citizens. You will drive yourself nuts with frustration if you don't chill a bit and let it go. Whoever said to grab a drink and take a seat or whatever is right. Believe me we all agree with you but you can't fight 'the man'.

7/15/11 Sent K1 Petition to Lockbox

8/10/11 STILL NO NOA1!

8/12/11 Called USCIS to get receipt number-NOA1 will be resent

8/16/11 Received NOA1 with date of 7/20/11

Yes, we are pretty good at getting right down to the heart of the matter. You'll be fine and stop worrying and act like the man your future wife will want you to be.

We all here can help you ensure that your case flies through pretty easily but there are some things that you just have to wait out.

Now, do you have all your documents ready (or at least have started compiling) that will be needed for the interview? Channel that energy into that.

Unfortunate for you to be going through this. I definately can relate with you on this matter. USCIS received my I 130 petition on Oct. 29th 2010. My husband had his interview May 13th 2011. His Visa wasn't denied but was sent back here to the states for further review. USCIS received the paperwork on June 29th 2011. We were initially told 120 days from this date and we would receive information. 120 days came and went, I called USCIS and was told the time frame is 150 days from the June 29th date. I called again on the 150th day. I was told by USCIS that a request would be issued to update the case due to 150 days passing. I received an email from USCIS today stating there would be a decision made on the 180th day due to that being the time frame. I have a friend that is going through the exact thing. Her husband had his interview June 7th and the paperwork was sent back to the states. Her situation is just like mine.

Yes you’re awesome. Thanks for sharing your advice. I’ve taken too much of it so I won’t mind if you go and help someone else who may appreciate it. =)
