The advantage of being married to an FSU woman is they do not generally celebrate "Christmas" as we do but instead celebrate "New Year's" with basically the same traditions we have for Christmas (the Soviets outlawed religion so the holiday was conveniently moved to another date which was politically correct...there IS a message there)

We do our shopping the week AFTER Christmas and get even better deals!

What's Black Friday? It sounds kinda racist to me.

Black Friday is the day following Thanksgiving Day in the United States, traditionally the beginning of the Christmas shopping season. On this day, most major retailers open extremely early, often at 4 a.m., or earlier, and offer promotional sales to kick off the shopping season, similar to Boxing Day sales in many Commonwealth Nations. Black Friday is not actually a holiday, but many non-retail employers give their employees the day off, increasing the number of potential shoppers. It has routinely been the busiest shopping day of the year since 2005,[1] although news reports, which at that time were inaccurate,[2] have described it as the busiest shopping day of the year for a much longer period of time.[3]

The day's name originated in Philadelphia, where it originally was used to describe the heavy and disruptive pedestrian and vehicle traffic which would occur on the day after Thanksgiving.[4] Use of the term started before 1966 and began to see broader use outside Philadelphia around 1975. Later an alternative explanation began to be offered: that "Black Friday" indicates the point at which retailers begin to turn a profit, or are "in the black".[5]

For many years, it was common for retailers to open at 6:00, but in the late 2000s, many had crept to 5:00 or even 4:00. This was taken to a new extreme in 2011, when several retailers (including Target, Kohls, Macy's, Best Buy, and Bealls) opened at midnight for the first time. An online petition with more than 200,000 virtual signatures is aimed at asking Target not to open so early.[6] Walmart opened at 10:00 pm on Thanksgiving and Toys 'R' Us at 9:00 pm. In 2010, Sears was open on Thanksgiving day.

Because Thanksgiving falls on the fourth Thursday in November in the United States, the day after occurs between the 23rd and the 29th of November.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

After watching a woman get sucker punched over a cabbage patch doll and otherwise intelligent people fighting over shopping carts, I quit going years ago.

Black Friday shopping looks really first class and exciting. Pass.

We went out late morning to follow up on ads at two places for things we wanted. No crowds at either place, lots of the product in stock and got parking spaces right in front.

Coming back from dinner on Thanksgiving afternoon we passed a local mall (about 3:30 pm). There was the expected half a block line up of people with tents and chairs and such in front of Best Buy. Down at the other tend of the mall, however, there was also a line up - smaller, only about a dozen or so people, in front of Target. Target???!!! Good grief! I can't think of any great deals at Target that would be worth standing outside for 12 or more hours, especially when it was going down to freezing overnight. The ironic part is I bet that they had plenty of the item in stock and people who walked in around noon got it for the same price as the ones waiting outside for hours in the cold.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I went into a Wal Mart Friday morning around 9 am.

Parking lot was not full, there were no bustling crowds inside - seemed 'normal' to me.

Guess I missed the early morning rush - yay !

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
