So I've applied for AOS, and my wife and I are planning a trip to New York before Xmas. We *could* drive but I'm just covering all the bases here. It's 800 miles away, we'd prefer to drive but would flying even be an option for me? I am still pending and haven't had anything back yet as I only applied for it officially last week some time. The way I see it going through customs sounds like a bad idea, and sort of scary with no actual paper work or confirmation that I am supposed to be there when they ask "when are you leaving?".

K-1 Visa Process

2011

2/3 Petitioned K-1 Visa I-129F I-134 G-325A x2 E-1145 & supporting evidence + $350 to VT

9/3 Petition Approved

29/6 Case now in the hands of local consulate

28/7 Filed DS-230 DS-156 x2 DS-157 x2 DS-156k DS-2001 & supporting evidence to London

22/8 K-1 Interview scheduled! Setup medical appointment

10/9 Medical examination in London + $350

14/9 Medical results sent to US Embassy London

26/9 Attended K-1 Approval Interview in London

7/10 Passport/Visa!!! BOOKED FLIGHT!

11/18 Filed AOS I-458 I-765 I-864 I-864A I-693 G-325A E-1145 & supporting evidence + $1070 to Chicago

12/7 Emailed with case numbers and delivery date for I-797C

12/10 NOA1 Physical copy I-797C for EAD & I-485 received

12/15 Biometrics Appointment letter received appointment scheduled

12/24 RFE for AOS: More tax return information

12/27 IRS Transcripts ordered

1/6 Biometrics appointment in ATL

1/17 Received Transcripts

1/19 Transcripts sent to MO

1/27 RFE accepted, case transferred to CSC

1/30 EAD moved into production

You're fine. Traveling with a pending AOS in the US is perfectly allowed and safe. For international travel you need the AP, but not for domestic. If you get your NOA before your trip - which you should - it is good to bring it with you. You don't go through customs when you fly within the US.

06/14/2011 - Day 103 - E-mail notice: Interview letter mailed, interview scheduled for July 20th

07/20/2011 - Day 139 - Interview at Federal Plaza USCIS location

07/22/2011 - Day 141 - E-mail approval notice received (Card production)

07/27/2011 - Day 146 - 2nd Card Production Email received

07/28/2011 - Day 147 - Post-Decision Activity Email from USCIS

08/04/2011 - Day 154 - Husband returns home from abroad; Welcome Letter and GC have arrived in the mail

("Resident since" date on the GC is 07/20/2011

Yes, flying within the USA is okay. You won't be going through customs because you won't leave the country.

My Immigration Journey:

It's absolutely fine. I did it while my AOS was pending. I took proof that I'd applied for AOS with me though, my NOA1...just in case it was flagged that my I-94 was expired. (but I am over cautious about everything)

You won't go through customs.

Driving would be fun :)

Haha, cheers pal! We want to drive anyway, but I'm glad I know this now it opens up option for Vegas!

Not a problem, my wife has an Arizona drivers license, they never ask for any;thing else.

In Arizona its hot hot hot.

Yeah, as others have said that flying would be ok, I don't think i'd want to drive that sort of distance again, well i would but not in one go.... me and my wife drove from michigan to florida (total of 1155 miles) i decided to do it all in one drive, only stopping for food and gas, it wasn't so bad until about 2/3 am when i started to get tired, i woulda never CHOOSE to do the drive again but if i have to i will, on the way back we stopped at a hotel after tennesse that way was much better!

You can travel within the US with any valid government issued ID.

I just flew to California with my husband last weekend (he's the USC), I used my NM driver license and I was not asked anything else. I did however have my passport, a copy of my NOA and marriage certificate in my luggage just in case.

US citizen since April 2016

ROC completed April 2014

AOS from K1 completed February 2012

We just got back from a trip to Florida for Thanksgiving. You don't go through customs. My husband used his driver's license as ID to board. Have fun in NCY.
