All three NOA1's that we received in the mail today all have the same A# but the A# is different from her K-1 NOA2 and on her I-94 card when she entered on her K-1 visa. The A#'s on her NOA2 from her K-1 and I-94 are the same A#. Also the notice of actions that we received today regarding her AOS say "I-797C, Notice of Action", to me that seems like it is the 3rd NOA they have sent when it should be the first for AOS since we just send the paperwork earlier this month.

Is there anything we should do if she has a different A#?

Will we run into any problems because of this?

Will we have to get one of her A#'s closed?

Any help with this is greatly appreciated.

Sorry I forgot to add I checked the paperwork we sent for AOS and they all had the A# listed from the NOA2 from the K-1 and the I-94 card Pui received when she entered the country.

Yes you should report the incorrect A number. They file things by A number, not by name so right now her file is split into the two A numbers, which down the line could cause issues.

Call the 1800 number and speak to a Tier 2 person, or make an infopass and have them correct the AOS A number to the K1 A number. That's her number for life, it shouldn't have changed. Then make sure on any other paperwork you get that it's been corrected. For instance, when she goes for biometrics, they'll have her check the details on the screen. Make sure you check the biometrics notice to see that they've fixed it. Then AT biometrics on the screen it should list her A number. Check it. Then show them the K1 NOA2 (so take it with you to the appointment) with the A number on it and ask them to change it there.

How does "I-797C, Notice of Action" make you think it's the third NOA? If its the "C" in the 1-797C then no. That's just what they're called. NOA2 is just a nickname we use.

Thanks Vanessa&Tony. I did what you suggested yesterday and called. I told the person I talked to that my wife's A# was different when we got the NOA1's from the AOS paperwork. She then said she needed to talk to Pui since I was not the one asking for the benefits, Pui then talked to her and gave her the permission to talk to me. The lady knew right away that is not supposed to happen and said we can fix this now over the phone. It seemed like the lady knew what she was doing. I said all the paperwork we sent in with the AOS we sent in the A# from the K-1 NOA2. The lady said it was a typographical error. She also said we could be contacted by email or letter with more information in the next 15 business days. I also did a little more research on here and I found a few topics on this subject and here is what I found.

I have the same thing too. My alien number in my AOS/EAD/AP is totally different from my K1 alien number. It's so totally different that I thought it can't be a mistake, because the numbers are really far away from each other. However, after reading this thread, I think I should give a call to USCIS this coming Monday. Damn.

NancyNguyen, yes please let me know what happens with the info pass. Did your husband previously have a a#? Good luck with the info pass tomorrow.

Yes he has had work permit before with a different A# than the one on Notice of Action forms. He called in and the representative told him to schedule an infopass to clear up and to know what number to use from now on. I will let you know after he comes back from the appointment (10.30AM Nov 28 2011.) I don't think a phone call with a regular representative will solve the problem, unless he/she is the supervisor or someone with higher level.

He just came back from the infopass, the officers told him if the A# on NOAs is consistent then it is the right one, and he should use the A# on NOAs (I-797C, Appointment...) from now on. They also told him the old A# on his OPT EAD also serves as an identifier but it is not "Alien" Alien Number (???) Hope this helps but please call them to make sure.

Ahh so you're not from a K1. I believe that's different as you were told it's not an Alien number. I have heard of that before.

I called them just now and they guy said that it's okay. He said that as long as all my identifications are correct (name/birthday) then it's fine and that there's nothing to worry about.

Yeah... it's not okay. Who did you talk to? I suggest making an INFOPASS and talking to them there. There are posts that the OP linked that discusses people that were told this WAS an issue and how to go about fixing it.

Yes, they told him it was just like a card number... with A# in front of it

You think so? I was transferred to Tier 2 regarding this matter and the guy said that it's fine. You think I should just go ahead and have an Infopass? I'm adjusting from K1.
