Depends on the civil surgeon. When I called to make an appointment, I got the appointment a week from calling. During the first visit they draw blood, do a basic physical check and give you the TB test. Then you'll have to go back within 48 and 72 hours from when the TB skin test was given, so that the civil surgeon can check the result. If the test is negative, you should get all your paperwork right then. You get it in a sealed envelope, so remember to ask them to make you a copy before they seal the envelope.

If the TB test seems to be positive, you'll have to get a chest x-ray which will ofcourse prolong the process.

At the medical clinic in Vancouver they don't even bother with TB skin tests for that very reason - 99% of Canadians will show a false positive on the skin test because we all got the vaccine in early childhood. They just march everybody right through the chest x-ray machine.

A clean chest x-ray trumps any other kind of TB test result.

DON'T PANIC

It depends on your doctor, but at mine, they did a general check-up and most of my time was spent with the nurse who gave me any vaccinations that I had expired and also, because my exam took place during the flu season, they were required to give it to me as well. They administered a TB test, I am always concerned with those because in the last three times that I had them done, it came out false positive; so I knew I was destined for an x-ray. I don't know what happened but when I returned for the measurement/check if it was positive, it was completely negative and I didn't need to have an x-ray done, so you never know!

Immediately after the office prepared all the paper work and had it ready for me to take home in a sealed envelope; they also gave me a copy of all the documents for my records.

Nothing out of the ordinary and nothing you should prepare in advance for! Good luck!
