Hi All,

I'm preparing DS-230 package for my parents IR-5.

what documents my parents need for police clearance certificate?

NVC recommends referring to each country's PCC specific requirement.

For Vietnam (link: http://travel.state.gov/visa/fees/fees_5455.html?cid=8987), my parents have to obtain Justice Record Check" (Phieu Ly Lich Tu Phap) are made at the Department of Justice office in an individual's district or official residence.

Looking at DS-230 general requirement (link: http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3195.html), "An applicant must obtain a police certificate from the local police authority if have been living in your country of nationality at their current residence for more than 6 months and you are 16 years old or older".

All in all, I don't see where they ask for passport clearance certificate (my parents applied for passports 04/2011 by the way), so I guess they need the following:

1) Justice Record Check" (Phieu Ly Lich Tu Phap)

2) a police certificate from the local police authority

Please feel free to advise if my parents also need passport clearance certificates.

Go back to police certificate from the local police authority, could anyone who completed DS-230 in Vietnam give me a sample form since the police in my area don't have that kind of form. And when my parents go ask that form, the police only give out the document stating that "It's true that Mr. A or Mrs. B is residing in this area,___". I think it's BS, looked like the police needed some money.

Happy Thanksgiving!

No need to apply for "passport clearance certificates".

You must have LY LICH TU PHAP, apply for it at So Tu Phap in your parent's province.

pm your email for sample LY LICH TU PHAP, I could not attach this file (too big) on this forum
