Hi, I have a quick query.. I have a gf in the United States and she just said, "YES" when I asked her to be my girlfriend. Now, we are talking about marrying. Iam 25, she is 21. She plans to visit me here in the Philippines on January 2012. How soon can she file a petition for me? When is the fastest time to file it? Can she file it right after she returns to US? and about the documentation. We are just using SMS, viber (iphone) and skype. How can we provide proof that we are communicating with each other?

I hope you can help me out. Thank you very much!

as soon as she agrees to marry you and you're both absolutely sure each is "the one" so as soon as shoe goes back to the US.you can print out your texts to each other and chat logs and documentation of her flight as well, and while she's in the US you can take pictures of the two of you.

Start here and compare between K-1 Fiance Visa and CR-1 Spousal Visa: http://www.visajourn...content/compare

Figure out which one is best for you and go from there. Both of you need to read the guides here as they are extremely

helpful. When you get stuck, post your questions here as there are plenty of VJ members who are more than willing to

help. Your GF is very young. Another thing she must be able to do is support you. Does she have a job? How much does

she make a year? See the link on the bottom of my information for poverty guideline and look at that. If she can't meet the

poverty guideline, you'll need a co-sponsor. This is allowed on a case-by-case basis by the USEM in the Philippines.

All the other links are useful links we used 3 months ago.

Very important for your GF when she comes to visit is entry/exit stamp on her passport, boarding passes, hotel receipts,

pictures of you together of the places you've visited.

Read the GUIDES here and then read them some more. When filling out forms, double check and triple check prior to sending

them out.

This can be an overwhelming process and will require tons of patience. I hope you both are ready for the potential long wait.

Good luck!

hi, thank you for your quick reply. My gf is a nurse in New Jersey. We met because my sister is also a nurse where she is currently working. We fall in love right at the very start when we started skype-ing.

I believe she can support me as she told me that the hospital she is working pays very well.

One question that I wanted to ask is, how can we show proof of exchanges? we seldom talk via chat. we always talk thru skype and yahoo messenger. and we are just new in a relationship. how soon can she file my petition? I am worried because someone told me that we have to have a 2 year relationship before or prior she can file a petition for me. :(

How soon can she file a petition for me?

- ASAP provided that you have CAREFULLY CHEKCED your documentation if it's all correct. But I suggest not be in a hurry to mail it. One slightest mistake could give you months of delay. eg. Typo error, wrong answer, you didn't answer the question correctly, you skipped the question

When is the fastest time to file it? Can she file it right after she returns to US?

Yes she can file it ASAP but again check it 300x before you mail it. They say that June and July is the worse month to file and if your service center is Vermont.

and about the documentation. We are just using SMS, viber (iphone) and skype. How can we provide proof that we are communicating with each other?

  1. Photos (set a date on your digicam),
  2. her credit card transactions here in the PI, Show your's too,
  3. hotel receipts (ideally with your both names on it),
  4. Save the screenshot for your interview.
  5. The photocopy of her passport's stamp showing entry and exit points
  6. If she extended a stay show Immigration receipt
  7. Airline Ticket

They just need a PROOF OF MEETING IN PERSON. So you need to provide evidence the litterally put the two of you in the same place at the same time.

Happy New Year!

Nope. She must file the application within 2 years of meeting in person. Meaning, if you met in person 4yrs ago and then she filed I-129F, the meeting is no longer valid. Some peeps here just knew each other for 2mos, the guy flew here and filed the petition right away. But yeah more than the technicality, you must get to know each other really well and see if the two of you must get married. Some beneficiary tend to overlook that because they are blindsided with the restrained romance and US visa.

I am on K-1 visa so I am talking about K-1 process.

Wow! Thanks for the quick reply. So just to clarify things, even thou we were months from the relationship, is it ok to get married asap? We really love each other and we cant help but to be together.

That's technically ok.

Are you thinking of taking K-1 (fiance) route or CR-1 (spouse)?

There are some folks here that are approved even if the relationship appears to be raw. But load yourself with evidence and arm yourself with a lot of information about your fiancee. You may encounter a CO or reviewer that will pick on you because of doubt- well, its their job and may give you a hard time on the interview. You never know. Just know each other very well.

I will spesifically give you an advise about Skype. If you wanted to provide Skype chats as proof of your ongoing relationship, you can store your chats forever by going to tools ----> options--->IM setting---> keeps history---> choose forever. I still have my Skype chats since 2008. Good luck.good.gif

For saving Skype conversation, if you us the webcam more then text you can hit the PRINT SCREEN button on the keyboard then open your word processor and PASTE it to a page and save. We do this as it shows both our screens along with some text which I make sure has todays date showing each time I save one. Saving the chat log is very easy also.

All the best in your journey ~

As soon as she gets back.

Fastest time is the same day she lands.

Yes

Then start emailing and writing letters and send gifts and take photos. You HAVE to generate all types of evidence since you have to convince total strangers that you have a legit relatinoship.

All of the above offer good advice, particularly skyping. Just make sure you are certain before making this step. If you have only JUST asked her to be your girlfriend then maybe you'll be able to enjoy the long K1 process...try for as many visits as possible during the interim :)
