Applying for tourist visa while married to US CITIZEN???

Hi there! I am married to USC and we are not living in the US. My husband works mostly in the ship so we decided that I better stay in my country. He just wanted me to visit his place in the US and meet his family and friends since they want to see me in person. We tried applying for a Tourist Visa last August. I presented strong economic ties such as

apartment lease, credit cards, bank accounts, bank loan application for our new house, car documents, job approved leave, and many others. The CO did not bother looking at them. He denied me outright just knowing I am married to USC. He advised me to apply CR1 instead. That was sad but I understand his point of not granting me a Tourist Visa. May you will be guided in what to do in your case.:-)

If you are planning to live in Brazil with your BF/Husband then as per me CR1 is waste of money and time just so he can met your family.

I would rather recomm that you move to Brazil settle there get a job, house, financials accounts, car etc. and same for him.

After that you can he can try for B1/2 showing all yours and his ties to Brazil and letting CO know your intent is just to go and see family.

Is this approach foolproof... no coz CO can always assume after you and him enter US in B1/2 he would file for AOS.

what is the difference between tourist visa and B 1/2 visa?

B1 is business visa - used to enter the US in order to visit a business fair or something like that

B2 is the tourist visa

I applied for a toursit visa in Brazil, but they gave me a B1/2. So I can enter the country for business or leasure travel.

what is the difference between tourist visa and B 1/2 visa?

To make things less complex B1/2 and tourist visa are same….. I know I m going to be bashed by lot of ppl for this statement.

When one applies for tourist visa they are given B1/2 and when entering the US based on the purpose of the visit could it be for business or pleasure. CBP officer would grant appropriate time in the country.

That would give the best chance to get the tourist visa approved.
