Medical is very simple. Blood test, Xray, and a physical exam by a doctor. They are mainly looking for communicable diseases (ie. Syphilis, HIV, etc) or other reasons that may make you at-risk for being a burden to the US government. If you're healthy you have nothing to worry about.

Your interview is 3 days before my wife's!

After doing a little research on it, it does say you need to have your vaccinations done prior to the General Examination. I'm not sure if that's true or not, but that's what it says. It can't be done day of?

HIV is not tested for any longer, nor is having it a disqualify condition...

Vaccinations are NOT typically required for the K-1, but they ARE required for AOS after marriage. If you can get them done cheaply or very inexpensively in your country it is best to do so before obtaining the K-1. Just be sure the panel physician completes your official shot record (and BE SURE to get a copy at the time of your physical)...

It is still an on-going condition that they would need to be aware of at the medical. You need to bring medical records of any on-going conditions/prescriptions/treatments.

I never said it was a disqualifying factor, nor did I say it was being tested for. I only wrote it as an example.

Good input though :)

If you have any past drug or alcohol abuse or use, you should be aware of the consequences of that (I will not volunteer any advice here, but you should look into the implications if it applies to you). If your chest x-ray shows any evidence of tuberculosis, you may need additional testing that will prolong the process.

Overall, it's a straightforward process. I am referring to experience with the immigrant visa medical (CR-1, not K-1), so take that for what it is. We were at the Clinica Anglo-Americana for about 4 hours. Arrive early, as dozens of people are scheduled at the same hour as you and you wait and are served in the order you arrive. Bring a snack and drinks because the food is expensive there (same for the neighborhood). The coffee machine is good enough if needed. We had to do x-rays, vaccinations, blood test, and general medical exam, going from department to department with paperwork as instructed by the nurses. At the end of the day, seeing the actual doctor was the last thing to happen. He asked my husband a few questions about why he was moving to the US and some random medical history inquiries. It was a long day, but everyone was very kind and we had no major issues (just getting lost and confused at a couple points!). We returned about 3 days later to pick up the medical packet. Don't forget to bring the 3 photos requested, your interview letter, and whatever else they need. I'd bring a good book or magazine to while away the waiting time. Good luck!

Take all your vaccination records with you. If you don't it will cost you about 700 soles to get them all. It's a bit expensive in the Angloamericana. Take ALL your records, it doesn't matter if they are back from you where a baby. I took with me all my records (baby ones included) and they didn't put me any vaccine. they put one for my kid and they charged me 300 soles JUST FOR 1. So be prepared

Besides that the exam is very simple, the doctor doesn't take even 10 minutes to exam you. Also a good advise is to take with you your medical sheet filled (the medical history that comes in the packet3) if you don't have it don't worry, they will give it to you at the Angloamericana, but if you do, you'll take advantage 'cause few people have it filled. good luck

I have the form that I have to complete for the medical, so I will complete it to have it ready, thank you for sharing your experiences and for the advice given :) If there is something else you think I should know please let me know!:)
