The concept of a machine with 5 working parts is very advanced for religious people. Why invent a complex machine with 5 parts when you can sit back with your hands on your lap, wearing a serene smile and a robe and just imagine the holy ghost magicked mice from clay and they must be there for a purpose like feeding people's cats

Interesting clip though as it answers the question of what use are half formed a hedgehog's spines (americans dont have hedgehogs in the wild).

A trainee pilot is only a workable concept in his final form (a trained pilot), so needs conditions to help him in the in-between stage eg an instructor. In nature, a benign environment, say one where the predators are not too developed yet, but enough of a factor to keep the defense mechanism developing

So complex cells didn't evolve from less complex cells?

By the rationale of this video something with five parts "lost" two parts to become functional as something different. That would mean humans started off as something more complex and then "lost" something along the way to make us what we are today.

I think they mean that the primitive cell used to be good at something else and then as it evolved, it changed its function to be good at what it is good at now

So it set off as a tie clip and evolved into a mousetrap

So the ancestors of the tiger (and us) used to be 3 inches long and lives in holes and ate roots

..then its digging claws were also useful for killing wildebeeste - very tiny wildebeeste

so its digging claws were an in-between stage to killing claws and this is how they changed function

The guy is saying that simple cells can work at doing something else and that later enables them to do things that are more and more complex until we end up with the final pinnacle of evolution - W's brain

Its like swinging from one tree to another to find our way upwards -changing what we were doing until the the climbing hands are used to steer cars. We didn't evolve car steering hands in one go and gaaaard didn't create us with car steering hands, but these climbing hands are an essential step to what we will have in billion years if Rick Perry doesn't get his hands on the nuclear button in the meantime.

I will have to think of some other examples than a hedgehog to try and disprove my countryman Mr Darwin - but so far I cant. 'Dar' is from the Brythonic language for "oak" and "wen" or "win" is water. I used to live in Darwen, Lancashire for 10 months - its the pits. Lots of oaks and lots of water. It seems to be a witch hunt for anyone who has faith. Alan is an avowed atheist but he got stuck in equal parts of rodomontade and desultory philippic.

Why do the atheists feel such a strong need to convince everyone that their belief is correct? Is it the fear of what will be if they are wrong? The idea of that big pointed skewer stuck in your nether region and exiting your mouth while slowly being rotated over a fire doesn't sit well with them?
