My fiance and I have been through hell as many of you know.. and now are just wanting to get married and take some time together as husband and wife and then reapply for CR 1, we are going to get married in India as a last resort as It would be much more complicated and we are fed up at this point with not being married .. so we are considering to go to thailand to get married.. I have seen that it will require alot of legal help with translations and that but its going to cost a fair amount but at least we can also honeymoon there and when we leave we will be married at last. I have thought of many things that I need to check out before we go and I am wondering if I am not thinking of everything.. I have been told that as long as we do everything by the book according to thailand;s laws our marriage will be valid everywhere in the world.. If you can think of ANYTHING that we should check into or do or any tips.. pls post here. I wont list all my concerns because it would take up a lot of room.. I am just looking for suggestions or anything useful. Thanks everyone in advance for your support!

Sherry

If your fiance is in India then you should get married in India with all religious rites and ceremonies. Make sure the event is documented properly (as in paperwork and photographs/ videos). Getting married in India along with friends and family proves that this is a real deal instead a marriage in thailand where no family members/ 100s of people are absent. You can always go to honeymoon to thailand (this may actually help you).

100% correct. Please please read and take to heart the new posts in your older threads:

If you absolutely can't have a religious marriage then you'll at least have to have a reception in your fiance's hometown with his extended family and friends present, if you want even a shot at getting a visa this time.

I don't know if you've checked out this website yet but it seems to be chalk full of helpful information regarding two foreigners marrying in Thailand. http://www.marrythailand.com/

I'm sure you could work around the translation issues. Marriage in Thailand is a very popular destination for foreigners. I recommend getting married in Bangkok or Pattaya as you find many more resources in English that will be much more easily accessible than other destinations such as Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, etc...

There are also 2 Hindu temples in Bangkok, the one I know of is called the Sri Mariammam temple in the Silom district. There's also a Gurdwara close to China Town. Have you posted any topics regarding this in the regional forums?

Maybe someone else with personal experience with marriage in Thailand could point you in the right direction. :)

I am the petitioner.

Yes I agree with the first two posts. Show that your marriage is real and not a secret. Invite Family and friends and take lots of pictures. This will help you during your Immigration process. Good Luck and Happy Holidays!

Always be grateful, thankful and appreciate what you have.
