I am an ASSISTANT in an immigraiton law firm. All I do is answer the phones, take messages, and type up documents. Im not, i repeat, not a lawyer. When my boss is not here, or with a client, or just plain busy, i take a message and give it to him. NOW, it is not my fault that sometimes he does not return calls. I leave him his messages every day.....every damn day.....yet, when people call, they feel the need to take it all out on ME. 'ive been trying to get a hold of him for weeks now, blah, blah, blah!' well, what the #### am i supposed to do about it??????????

Last week, my boss was in court. I had a guy come into the office, without an appointment, demanding to see him. what, like im hiding him under my desk?? hes not here, deal with it. Your the one that came in without an appointment, why are you taking out the fact that he's not here on me. and this guy tried claiming that he's called for the past two weeks! that was BS, i went and looked through my messages and his name was nowhere in sight. BS.....Ive also gotten people refuse to hang up and wait for him to call them, 'no, i will wait on the line...' ' ummmm, cant let you do that, hes not here, wont be back for an hour, your not waiting on hold for an hour.'

All i do is repeat myself all day long. 'im sorry but he is not in the office at the moment, i can take a message' 'but i already left a message yesterday and the day before, ' ' SIR, he's not in the office at the moment, all i can do is take a message and give it to him when he returns.......' thats what i do all day long! and believe me, no one speaks to me in a nice tone whatsoever, its always in a rude and very unnesessary mannor. In every other respect i absolutely love my job, but i just cant handle these people anymore!

So the moral of this story, please be curteous to others!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hear you, I think that is typical for just about any law office. My ex owns a law practice and my daughter works for her and they both get so angry with how rude people can be.

Of course where I work people are so wonderful and professional and I couldn't ask for a better boss!

I recommend your boss gets a new phone system - with voicemail! It's amazing the difference it can make....

(Spoken like the true phone system salesperson that I am  )

funny thing is, we have a voicemail system, but no one wants to leave a message on it...they would rather harass me!

and heaven forbid the phones would go unanswered!! also, ive noticed that when no one answers the phone, they wont leave a message, they will just call back three or four times until someone answers!

It's not just law offices though. People in general when they make phone calls for what they want, are often rude. I hear it all day long. As if yelling at me is going to make me wave my magic wand and give them what they want. If something is broken, screaming at me is not going to do anything to get it fixed.

And just in case there are people reading this who call into call centers and consider screaming at the representative that answers the phone, just remember these people have an awful lot of information about you. Address, phone number, SSN, credit card information ....... Not everyone who answers those phones are ethical, most are, but some aren't and I personally would never take that risk. That also goes for anyone that is preparing food. I worked in food service when I was a teenager and saw some very scary things back then.

People suck, don't they?! It's like, damn, leave a freaking message, will ya?!

I'm pretty fortunate in that when my accounts call with a problem, they call in downstairs and not on my direct line. There's nothing worse than being confronted with Angry first thing in the morning - I learnt that when I worked in real estate!

Sounds like you work for an a$$hole. That's the problem.

I deal with a lot of the same thing working in an advising office at a University. People come up here ALL the time demanding to see their advisor right now and they can't seem to understand that just because she is here and is in her office, that doesn't mean she is just waiting around for student to come by, she is WORKING and it is rude to come without an appointment. Half of the campus hates me because I'm the one who always has to turn them away or tell them to make an appointment or won't transfer their calls through. People are definitely just plain rude! The worst is when one of the advisors comes out to ask one of us something, the students will sometimes wait around right outside the door and jump in and talk to them as soon as they come out right after I told them they are busy right now. That really irks me.....I just told you they're busy, stop trying to circumvent me! Sign, I'm ranting....:ranting:

I always say, 'Be nice to the people that serve your food'. Thank you for confirming that.

Anyway, I've worked in customer service enough to know how it feels to be yelled at like that. So I always empathize with people I either talk to in person or over the phone.

sad, that people take out their anger inappropriately on those who ahve no power in the matter..and then, the same people kiss azz on the one they should be pissed at....displaced anger...signs of a weak ego strength and also, 1st class chopf##k...

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

I guess it's just how the world works.....however, if most of these people would be nice they would find that the person is a lot more willing to help them out! I know I try to help the students out with what they need a lot more if they're polite to me!

I have lots of fun with the assclowns who call me up and try and bring some attitude. It's always the stupid people who try to do it aswell, which makes it all the more fun to smack them down. And usually they don't realise they've been smacked down.

You should just put them on hold, that will piss them off even more.

What never ceases to amaze me is that people don't seem to realise that in order to get what they want (ie an appointment or some help) they have to go through you....which means they should be nice to you. Being nasty really doesn't accomplish their goals.

I'm having a little laugh over here, thinking about some of the stories I read here of how ppl talk about their immigration attorneys.. or even funnier, the way people here talk about the USCIS 1-800#..... does the call for kindness extend that far?
