I don't think the British ever get used to America's streaky bacon. And after having had UK bacon, I can't blame them!

This is nonsense.

My wife is Ukrainian and cooks Ukrainian food because that is what she knows how to cook. It is pretty good and I eat it most of the time. When I want tacos, chili, beans and sausage, frogmore stew, dragon stew, etc, I just make it. I know where the store is, I know how to cook it. I just do it. I do not complain or ask permission. Just do it. I even wash my own dishes when I am done, get a big bowl of HOT Texas Red and settle down to VJ! :D

Alla does not complain and does not eat it (more for me!)

#######???? You mean adults can't handle this?

 so good!

People always ask me what we ate back in the Philippines and I've found that the easiest way for them to understand is by me telling them, "We eat the same things you do but with rice!" LOL. Most of the time it works out okay... My husband and I eat a lot of chicken and beef so I just cook rice for myself (he bought me a rice cooker). The problem is, my husband is the picky eater. I even talked to his mom about it and she said that ever since he was a little kid, he would eat the same stuff he was already used to. I was very disappointed at first because I really wanted to start cooking Filipino dishes - I really miss the sauces in Filipino cuisine but I've learned to live with(out) it. The last time we were in the Philippines (just this past November), he did try all the dishes they served at my brother's wedding. ^_^ They did serve roast beef and mashed potatoes though and I think he asked for more of that than anything else --- he tried a little bit of the lechon though (and I don't even like it very much). I was very proud of him. Besides, I cook whatever I want to eat during the day while he's at work and then we eat the same stuff for dinner when he gets home (pizza, KFC, etc., LOL - although we're eating healthier now). He also makes french toast for me during weekends - yum!

In other places, other cultures, food is important.

One of the big things, always, is for the USCitizen Spouse to accomodate the foreign spouse on food.

It's a big thing, really, as cooking the same dishes SHE knows, in the home in the USA, is a big way to keep her cultural identity.

This is a huge deal for Chinese folksen, food is everything.

To hear about your particular experience in your home - alas, I am sad. Your husband seems narrow minded on food and your base need to cook more and eat more Phils food at home.

Feeling homesick? Best short term cure is to do some Karaoke that you know, and cook yer food. Not have Husband Participation? Really mondo sucky.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Havin been married to two men from Morocco...I feel you. I am lucky that my husband now is so good nd eats whatever I cook. However, I do serach on line and look for Moroccan recipes for him. Not long ago I made him 7 vegetable Cous Cous and home made bread like they have there. His biggest complaint is that the seasoning is bland and that we don't always have halal meat.

I would suggest finding halal market and going there with him to shop. They also usually have a little cafe where you can purchase already made food. The issue may be more that the meat is not halal versus what you are cooking. You have to remember that all the meat there is halal. All the vegetables and fruits there are also organic.

Also, another concern that my husband has when we eat out, if the restraunt serves pork, is if the other food is prepared where the pork was prepared. Are you preparing any pork in the home? That could be a possible issue.

You may also want to find a mediterranean (sp) restraunt and take him there for a meal.

Hi, regarding the Halal markets, we have a few here in Cincinnati that we often still go to. In the beginning, when my husband got here, that is all he said he could eat unless fish. After many visit to to mosque on Friday, he decided to speak with the Imam about this food issue and not being able to eat out and so forth. The Imam told him to just say "Besmil Allah" before he ate. Verse in Quran 5.5. says: This day all between good and pure things are made lawful for you. The food of the people of the book is lawful for you and yours is lawful for them. So afterwards, my honey was happy to share a meal with me anywhere except pork. LOL.

I still cook pork in our home and this has never been an issue as it shouldn't. Just tonight, I made Ham, green beans and potatoes and cooked him his favorite Moroccan dish and Moroccan bread. I don't always feel we have to eat the same dishes and neither does he. We play fair LOL. He has never tried to change my Southern way of living or cooking, However, I do respect his ways of not drinking, smoking, etc. and I will not allow that in our home just out of the deepest respect for him.
