Hello VJ's,

So, i have a problem with my Fiance. He is Moroccan and I'm Mexican American. He has been complaining about food most of the time. Not only he complains, but also makes faces to most of the food. I understand he misses his Moroccan food, but i feel he should at least taste the food, there have been some occasions where i have to force him to taste it. He says its good but won't eat it. I feel stress and nervous, i have no idea what to cook, because he even complains about food in the restaurants, so I'm thinking to myself if he don't like the good restaurant food of course he will not like my cooking. I really haven't cooked much.I'm afraid he won't like it and makes faces like he has till now then i will really get upset. I guess i thought it was going to be just as normal as it was when i visit him in Morocco. I had no problem eating anything.

Sometimes i just want to :bonk: him. I love him, but sometimes this food problem gets in my head, He says not to stress about it, but grrrrrrrrrrrr!

Where do you live ? Are there local resturants that serve native food ? How about markets ?

We live in Los Angeles. I have no idea of any restaurants, but will start looking for them. Markets i don't know.

Tell him to grow up. Moving to a new country means making some changes. Ask him how he would feel if you went to Morocco and complained about the food and demanded nothing but American food. My approach would be if he refuses to eat the food that you make, just let him go hungry, he's not going to starve.

This must make for happy meal time.

If Morocco has a strong food culture like China does I can understand your problems. My wife is a fantastic cook but my son is against anything that isn't meat or potato. A very wise person told me that if I try to make everyone happy it has the opposite effect. My advice is try not to worry about it too much.

That's exactly what i told him. He says for me to cook what i usually do, if he don;'t like he will just cook his own food. How am i suppose to feel when he says this. I'm also thinking of Thanks giving and Christmas i really hope he enjoys the food.

Well, ya missed a step.

When you were there, back in Morocco,

you were supposed to sit with him and his mother for a bit,

inquire for his favorite dishes,

then

SHE teaches you how to cook them.

It's a bit involved, but once ya get the hang of it, in HER kitchen, you'll be fine.

The trick, IMO, is to mimic Mama's cooking, always.

For me and my lass - her mama is a bad cook but her brothers are excellent cooks. I spend 2 days each time, learning more.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
