My hubby is a carpenter, and he is currently working for himself, doing some sub-contracting and such. I was just wondering if anyone in the VJ universe knows if there are any complications that we should be aware of when doing his taxes, seeing as he's on a GC.

Thanks!

No complications. Green Card holders are authorized for employment or self employment.

No complications because of his status. You are aware that he is self-employed and is liable for paying self-employment taxes (around 15% of his income.) It covers social security and medicare that would be withheld from his check if he had an employer, with part of it paid by the employer. As self-employed he pays all of it. He has extra forms to complete for the income tax return....sort of a "complication" you may or may not be aware of.

Yeah, we're working through all that right now. Luckily we're in NH so federal is all we have to worry about. Also semi-luckily, since he had to leave a significant portion of his tools behind, all of those types of purchases are tax deductible
