Two Year Green Card?

Please correct me if I'm wrong:

I'm a US Citizen. When I marry my immigrant (non-citizen) fiancee next month, she will receive a conditional green card that lasts for two years and then can be renewed at end of two years for a 10 year green card. My question is: when does that two year period officially start? Is it from the date we were married or from the date paperwork is filed or the date the conditional green card is issued?

I'm confused .

It's 2 years from the date her conditional Green Card is approved.

She can file for the Removal of Conditions within 90 days of that 2 year anniversary.

That 2 year period starts when she enters the US (assuming you send the I130 petition and she receives the CR-1 visa). She'll have a 'resident since' date on her green card which will correspond to the date she entered the US on a CR1 spousal visa

now, if you go another route, then my answer will change.

And she won't renew her green card after 2 years, Y'all will have to petition to remove conditions on her 2 year conditional green card. Sadly, I wish it was just a simple renewal. We just went through it and it took 7 months

The two-year period starts the day she is officially approved for her green card, which will be the date stamped on her green card.

Tip: Start saving documentation showing you co-mingle your lives, taxes, bank accounts, and live at the same address. Get some things in both names like credit cards, car titles, leases/mortgages, utilities, beneficiary status on insurance or pension plans. You will have to provide documents covering those whole two years of marriage with the removing conditions application.

Another tip: If you marry before the end of 2011, you can file joint 2011 income tax return as if you were married the entire year even though he will still not have a greencard. Get his SSN now before his 76th day in the US for use on the joint tax return.
