Yes, black granite sink, 10" deep. You can easily put a 5 gallon bucket in there and swing the faucet over to fill it up. You can also lay one of those huge deep frying pans they use flat in the bottom of the sink for washing. The dam "rock sink" will break anything you drop in it, I think tupperware would break if you dropped it in that sink. But it is only one bowl, not a double bowl.

One appliance I know she loves besides the curling iron and hot rollers.. is the dryer for clothes...

My wife does not clean the lint trap. Nor will she use the auto settings. No matter what goes in, it's in there for one hour and then it sits for about three days.

I prefer to do my own laundry since I like dry pants. Also since someone has to clean out the lint trap once in a while.

tbh Iv'e never seen a granite sink...I'm guessing it looks nice though. Kira wanted granite counters with tile floors in all the bathrooms and kitchen for the house were building...and although I'm totally for equal relationships...money and practicality is taking preference this time. I made giant mistake with the ex when I agreed on getting a town house (zero lot line) that I didn't like from the get go...and I was unhappy the entire time living in that thing. This time it's a 90-10 split with the house idea's. Her being the 10%. I mean she even had a stucco like siding picked and it was like something out of a Greek villa...for Alaska.

Nope...this house is going to have a green metal gamble roof... (Dutch roof to some), and split log siding. The only thing she is getting tile is the entry way...kitchen, bathrooms, and utility room is going to be Armstrong linoleum. I was going to go with hardwood floors for the dining room and living room but now it's going have to be Pergo...which has come a long way lately and it's hard to tell the difference. They also have indoor sheets of paneling now that looks just like tongue and groove split cedar which adds a nice cabin touch to it all. Cheap yet effective.

I took a whole freakin' pillow worth out of the lint filter the other day! I have to run down there and check it every so often, she NEVER will. Must be a man job.

Alla has chosen everything and I will say that she IS the one that uses it so she gets to choose, I just install it. The ONLY flooring she will accpet is ceramic tile, hardwood or sheet vinyl, I do not like vinyl so that leaves hardwood or ceramic. We have ceramic in the bathrooms and kitchen and hardwood everywhere else. I will also say she makes good choices and has a good "eye" for decorating. Laminate floors are OKm better than they used to be. They are NOT for use where they can get wet though, they get ruined if they get very wet. NOT a good choice for kitchens or bathrooms. Alla will NOT have carpet in the house. When we got this place there were a few rooms with carpet and it all had to be removed before she would move in. We had plywood for a few weeks until I put in hardwood in those rooms.

Metal roofs are great, good choice. Especailly in snow areas and steep roofs are excellent also. Let the damn snow slide right off!

Our barn has a metal roof....yes to the snow sliding off.....but even in a gentle rain, it's deafening......I installed a 250 watt stereo system (old style used from eBay) with four speakers and a bass just so I could hear my blues and jazz station!!!

Metal roofs these days are pretty much dead silent. They use strips of foam with a glue like backing that goes along the full length every ridge and seam of the roof...ridges run about every 8" - 12" on most roofs. It does two things...it doesn't allow moisture to get underneath, and it dampens the noise. My parents built their cabin/house in '98 and sleeping upstairs you can't hear much of anything unless it's a down pour and even then it's not much to note. Popular colors here seem to be green, red, and blue.

Here's a few looks at metal roofs on some cabins/houses up here.

Laminate floors have better wear/abrasion resistance than they used to (higher levels of aluminum oxide in the wear layer that is coated on top of the printed decorative sheet). They are much worse for impact resistance. When Pergo started years ago in Perstorp, Finland, they used two to three layers of phenolic treated kraft paper under the decorative sheet and pressed it together (essentially it was a decorative laminate like "Formica" glued to a 5 to 6mm thick underlayment board such as high density fibreboard). During the mid-90's they started removing the kraft paper to save cost. At the same time the surface and printing technology improved. So they made a better looking, better wearing product and it is cheaper. They get fewer complaints based on impact damage as the average person who drops a picture frame on their floor and dents it, assumes it's his own fault...

Engineered hardwood (check out Bruce) approaches Pergo in price (within $0.50 to $1.00 per sq ft). A much better option as it also has the wear layer (aluminum oxide) applied over the hardwood.

Do you have a preference in brands of laminate floors...like Pergo over Wilsonart or visa versa? I wanted hardwood floors for the living and dining room but price per sq ft seems to be considerable between the two.

If you can get Wilsonart, it was high pressure flooring (i.e. made like a laminate for a countertop). Pergo is low pressure (made like cheap furniture from China). Wilsonart has exited the business.

I'd still go with an engineered hardwood. For a $1.00 a sq ft in two rooms shouldn't be more than $500 to $1,000. It may be even less as laminate is noisy. So you will need an underlayment pad under it. Eats into the savings. I put laminate in a house I was selling eight years ago. Looks great for a short period of time. If you are staying for more than a few years, you'll be pulling the laminate out and putting in hardwood or tile.

We put on a metal roof in 2010 and it has foam board underneath and of course the insulated attic space between the roof and ceiling and we notice no difference in noise. If it is exposed like it may be for a barn..yes, definitely noisy.

I would say that in new construction metal roofs dominate here and for replacement they are about 80% of the market. Until a couple years ago the metal roofs were more expensive but now it is actually cheaper than shingle roofs.

we get enough snow here that if you do not have a snow shedding roof you can figure on shoveling it at least once per year and I HATE to shovel roofs. HATE it

Hardwood it is then. Now that I think about it my sisters house has a few "chips" in their Pergo entry way and it looks really bad. Like Sauder wood underneath...compressed wood shavings with glue or something. I'm going to price out the wood flooring boxes on Lowe's and Home Depot. The builder is getting it at contractor's price so that should help some. It's going over a cement slab...were doing a slab foundation with in floor heating.

Even down here in Florida metal roofs are great. They are just about the most hurricane resistant roof you can get. I have it on my house in the Keys and it has survived two good hurricanes. Mine is galvalum, silver colored. Down here in the brutal sun even the best colored roofs fade and get chalky.

In our house we ripped up the carpet and I installed laminate in the bedrooms. In the master I used Pergo. and it looks great and was an easy install. In the other bedrooms I went with a cheaper laminate and it was a pain in my a$ installing it. Had several little chips on corners of pieces and just did not install as easy.

If I were to do it again, and we have a large TV room that I want to do, we will use engineered hardwood or real hardwood.

Check out their "clearance" prices if they do that there. Alla bought all our flooring on clearance and got the stuff dirt cheap at Lowe's. 7 cents per square foot for African slate which I used on the walls and floors in the bathroom, looks great. Cement board underlayment for $2 per sheet (3 x 5 size) Hardwood floor, real hardwood, for under $1 per square foot. If I recall correctly it was something like 69 cents per square foot.

If you are in a hurry, this will not work. I was known at Lowes as "Alla's husband" She would go in, find this stuff, buy all they had and have them hold it for her, I would go back with the van and load up.

The granite sink? $40 !!!!!!!! It was a special order that had been returned and Lowe's tried to sell it and kept dropping the price. Alla walked in and bought it at $40. The secret is to go often and be ready to buy when you find something. She bought a HUGE Samsung washing machine for $200 because it had a dent and scratch on the side, it goes in the basement...who cares? We sold the 30 year old Kenmore for $100! I netted the new Samsung for $100!!!!!!!! I do all the work myself so we do these remodels for very cheap.

Just be patient, keep checking the deals, buy stuff when it is cheap. I was storing stuff in the garage for the bathroom remodel for almost a year, but we did ceramic walls and floors, huge tub, vanity, sink, granite counter top, everything new except the toilet (it was fairly new anyway) for well under $1000. Well under. Probably closer to $500

Pots left out on the stove with food still in it. "I will just have to heat it up later".

she has begun taking the pots off the stove, but then they go into the refrigerator.

Exactly, man (sigh, man).
Using tupperware or something similar. Sure she uses it, the lids become some type of serving tray and the canisters hold other things, but not with a lid on top. If she wants to keep it covered that is what aluminum foil is for.
Yours TOO, man?! Exactly the scenario here.
As for dishes in the sink, usually that will start with some large bowl before the dishes of all sizes are stacked on top. In under a minute I can re-stack them allowing access to the faucet.
It takes me far longer than a minute, see man -- Mrs. T-B. is well-stacked. (Uh, did that come out right, huh man?)

And, in regard to later posts, Mrs. T-B. has no clue where or what the lint-trap is, no man.
