Duvet covers aren't hard... just turn it inside out, line up the corners, grab the farthest corners from the inside, turn the whole thing inside out, and shake it out. Much easier than bothering with a separate comforter and top sheet. I always get everything tangled when I sleep.

Proof.

Good...so I'm not the only one who had to put up with the food being left out all night. I got a jumbo box of tupperware and showed her what it was used for. She has finally got into the habit of putting it into tupperware and in the fridge...well sort of. I do it most of the time, but if I crash out first and it's still on the stove top, she puts it away. But ya, that drove me nuts. She did that ####### over in Belarus when I was there also and it was like.."#######"?

My wife still does not get the concept of "sealed" containers. If I had a dollar for every time I spilled something because the lid wasn't on tight, I'd be rich.

Si, man (sigh, man). I've lost track of the number of "science experiments" that I've found after an overnight period on the stove, or for indeterminately longer periods in the refrigerator. At least fungus is a vegetable, si man.

And, it took the better part of 3 years before I found that various caps, lids, & tops were more on than off, spill man.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I'm starting to think the US and Canada is the only places people take procedures on not getting sick from food being left out.

OMG! Where do I start? Pots left out on the stove with food still in it. "I will just have to heat it up later". "Borscht is only good after three days." Now she has begun taking the pots off the stove, but they the go into the refrigerator.

Using tupperware or something similar. Sure she uses it, the lids become some type of serving tray and the canisters hold other things, but not with a lid on top. If she wants to keep it covered that is what aluminum foil is for. As for dishes in the sink, usually that will start with some large bowl before the dishes of all sizes are stacked on top. In under a minute I can re-stack them allowing access to the faucet. At least she has learned about the dishwasher.

Oh yeah, and drinking the water out of the faucet. I have done that all my life and didn't die. Heck, I used to drink it directly from the hose outside growing up and didn't die. When the wife arrived we were constantly buying various sizes of bottled water, until we went to the large bottle with the cooler. Finally I found a system that fits under the sink and "purifies" the water (sufficiently for her) and will give us almost unlimited "good" water for only $20 a month.

I love my wife, but housework is not her strong suit. I have talked about us getting a larger home so that more family can visit and our friends won't be on top of one another during parties. She complains about more to dust and wasted energy heating or cooling empty rooms. Once again the cultural differences show up. I'm not really complaining but it feels good to just get it off my chest once in a while. :hehe:

My wife boils her water in the tea kettle, lets it cool down and uses that for drinking water. I mean like #######? We are on well water and the our water is just fine. The dishes thing has to be a RUB thing. She finally saw me do the dishes enough times right after dinner to get the hint not to leave them in the sink over night. She still hasn't got into using the dishwasher, but with only two of us here it's a waste of electricity anyways. The food being left out though...that's the one that kills me. I mean that's like asking for food poisoning.

My wife would dust everything in her apt. over there on Sundays and then clean the ####### out of the hardwood floor. She hasn't dusted jack ####### since she's been here. Vacuuming...I do almost all of it.

Alla does the same and in Ukraine you better do that or you WILL get sick from the water. I always drank "BonAqua" when I was there. Here the water is great to drink right from the faucet (or the hose) and the homes in the country with well water are the BEST! There are many bottling companies that bottle the water here and sell it.

Of course the state is trying to figure a way to TAX them for it.

I HAVE to do a kitchen patrol before going to bed or there WILL be food left out. It is outta control! The boys do the same thing. The potatoes were put in the oven on Thanksgiving because the counters were full of stuff, and left there for TWO days. I found them and said "oh no" Alla says "What?" She says "no problem" popped one in the microwave and ate it then and there. There were about 6 of them and they are all gone now and no one is vomiting (I did not eat them but Pasha and Alla scarf them right up)

My wife leaves food out all the time.. uncovered then she puts in fridge 3 hours later and doesnt use wrap or anything.. I bought tupperware and saran wrap lol I was having stomach troubles the first few weeks and she said it was because I don't eat proper diet lol.. I keep telling her to seal food always lol... She washed dishes all the time but they dry on the counter.. I usually end up drying them because I can't stand cluttered counter tops.. I think 2 months since she has been here the dishwasher has been used twice..

One appliance I know she loves besides the curling iron and hot rollers.. is the dryer for clothes...

we get our milk fresh from the cow, literally. So the other day I picked up one of the mason jars and it was full of lumpy milk, i dumped it down the drain and Alla walks in right them to see the chunks of milk in the sink and says

"WHAT DID YOU DO?????!!!!!!!!!" What? "That was GOOD milk!" Good for what? "Baking, I use it for baking! You need to go to the farm and get more, don't touch the milk!" Alla is the "milk police"

She will not use tupperware or any other plastic container, glass only. Yes she breaks them sometimes. We have many sets of glass containers with lids for storage of food. Some wihtout lids (???) Where DO the lids go?

Iv'e learned the hard way to always check the oven for frying pans before I turn it on. I'm guessing she doesn't want to waste the grease...

Europeans go ape over clothes dryers. They see them on American movies and TV shows over there and they get the itch to try them out. Beats the h*ll out of having everything hang all over the house with jeans being stiff as cardboard. Kira would be lost now without a dryer.

As for the dishes on the counter top...only one way to go...

Oh yeah the clothes dryer is GOLD. Alla did not have one in Ukraine and said "I will probably not use one in America" She still irons some things but not like she had to in Ukraine. She likes the dishwasher but will not "put in the chemical or start" the dishwasher. (Man job) If she washes dishes by hand she leaves them on the counter to dry, yes. And not in a "drain board" just ON the counter

Yeah but she does use one of those, she just puts them all over the counter top. When I remodeled the kitchen we spent an agonizing 3 months or so (seemed that way)choosing a kitchen sink and she finally chose a huge, single bowl granite sink. Very big and very deep, washtub size. She decided since she was going to have a machine for washing dishes she wanted a big single sink for soup pots, etc. Ok but that leaves no place for a drain board.

Alla did not want a dryer at first, she was sure it would "make no difference" But she tried it ONCE and ...that's it, SOLD! We since bought a new washer and dryer and she likes that even more than my 30 year old Kenmore's I had.

Granite sink? Stainless steel dual 8-9" deep kitchen sink w/sprayer ftw. Wash side, and rinse side and easy to clean with the dish strainer being on the rinse side. Something like that down below...although I'm not sure what that funky handle thing in front of the faucet is in that pic.
