Grandfather Frost. The part of Belarus they were from and where my grandmother's family all still live was actually part of Poland from 1920 till 1939.

Grand Father Frost is one thing, but the Commies used "Grand Father Frost" to replace Orthodox St. Nicholas along with New Years being substituted for Christmas. Bolshevik brainwashing at it's finest. Luckily the Russian Orthodox church here in Alaska didn't have to deal with the Kremlin commies. It still follows the more traditional rules of Christmas with the Orthodox St. Nicholas and Christmas.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Well, aren't those Old Believers?

Nope. The Old Believers here have their own church about a mile down the road from the Russian Orthodox Church. More than a few things seperate the Old Faith from the more modern church, the main thing though being how they sign themselves. One uses two fingers, the other three fingers. In fact it was that signing that set them off and started a civil war in Russia between the Old Slavic Orthodox Church and what it is today.

Ded Moroz is an old Rus Slavic figure...kind of like Baba Yaga is, but he was never a replacement for Christmas until the Commies took over. The Commies wanting to stamp out religion replaced Orthodox St. Nicholas with Ded Moroz and Christmas with New Years Day.

I just know there are a ton who moved to Alaska/Western Canada.

Whatever, Americans turned St. Nicholas into Santa Claus. There are more serious things to get your panties into a twist over.

Nothing to do with getting my panties twisted, and all to do with not twisting history. The Americans have Santa Claus, the Germans have Kris Kringle, the English Father Christmas, etc..etc.. (all based on St. Nicholas), and the Belarusians never had "Ded Moroz" as anything other than a fairy tale figure who had zero to do with handing out gifts on New Years. If you didn't know, most Belarusians are of Orthodox faith and a minority of them are Catholic. Both of those religions are Christian...not Communist which is a political agenda.

The first arrival of the Old Faith here in Alaska came not long after Vitus Bering claimed Alaska for the Russian Tsar Peter the 1st. They built their own communities here away from the Russian Orthodox Church for the fact they were worried they would be persecuted. Russian presence here in Alaska dates back to around 1750.

I think they are genetically predisposed to reject responsibility for anything negative:

a) I did not do it (your fault)

b) I did it, but you provoked me (your fault)

c) I did it, but you do the same thing all the time (bad influence - your fault really)

d) I did it, but you did something worse (insert example here) last week, month, etc. (comparatively your fault is greater).

Vika really has this patter down due to a lifetime of training with it. It used to irritate, but now I mostly laugh and wonder what they do with each other when two Eastern Europeans have these conversations. We also see some pretty funny applications in our house. Vika drops a glass on the floor, and the stupid American glass is defective and the floor is too hard. She is absolutely not responsible for breaking the glass. Sense of humor is important.

this sounds like it was taken from the brazilian playbook.

Is that like a wedgie?

From any given point in Alaska you can SEE Russia.

lol...I don't know where or why Sarah came up with that one. But I have seen Russia from Alaskan waters, and a few times our guys working on the ice packs testing for oil have had their ice pack break off into smaller pieces with heavy equipment and all, and drifted over to Russian waters where they were rescued by the Ruskies. It's happened to the Russians as well...usually though it's their pos fishing boats taking on water when they are poaching our crab and bottom fish. Their almost as bad as the Taiwanese in that regard.

It's funny though, the Old Faith Russians here talk in Russian to each other at the stores and when they hear Kira talking on her cell phone to her Russian friends here they look at here like shes from Mars or something.

Alla SWEARS that she was taught as a young girl that Nikita Kruschev had "given Alaska to the Americans as a peace offering" I say NO WAY! But she insists! I think that would be even a little wacko for Soviets, however Nikita Sergeyovich WAS from Donetsk and is to this day somewhat a local folk hero.

LOL... Russians still see Kruschev as a traitor for giving the Crim to Ukraine. They even have a few whacked out Russian politicians in the Russian Duma that want to invade the Crim, hence the reason the Crim has a special autonomy. Republic of Crimea or something like that. Yushenko put a lid on that one when he did in the dual citizenship. :)

My GRUB wife does most of the cooking and cleaning... I will help with the dishes and laundry.. I will also cook about once a week..

I was very meticulous about where I live.. But when Neli came to America she said I clean like a man lol.. If there was a nook or cranny with dust she was disgusted lol..

What I don't get is how chicks can take less time cooking and cleaning than guys (or at least me), and do a better job. That one kills me. I break my a$$ cooking dinner sometimes in an all out five course meal, and she can do the same thing the next night in half the time and effort.
