Returning to original topic: Mrs. T-B. (ably assisted by Mama-Mrs.-T-B.) put on a splendid birthday party for 1-year-old Mini-Bone. In short, every aspect of the affair was well-appointed and tastefully done. I served the three flavors of ice cream (more to the guests than to the indigenous kitchen ants, si man), removed the garbage at party's end, and am waiting for the dishwasher to finish so that the contents can be put away, see man. The ladies handled everything else.

Mini-Bone charmed the relatives and acquitted his delightful little self in grand fashion, courtesy of a pre-party nap, zzz man. Thankfully, he and we all got post-party naps, zzz man. Lord willing, we'll repeat all of the above in a year, si man.

Congats! It sounds like Mini-Bones 1st birthday was a hit. Did he manage to get ice cream all over his face is the next question.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Gracias, si man, and to everyone else who compliments the very-worthy-of-it Mama-Mrs.-T-B. Mini-B. didn't eat any ice cream, but he certainly put his little hand in the icing of his cake as we were singing Happy Birthday.

He's incredible: after each of his toy gifts was opened, he knew exactly which buttons to push or levers to pull in order for the contraptions to do something. He also enjoys swinging doors open & shut -- and just tonight, he learned the concept of doorknobs, although he's neither tall enough nor strong enough yet to do anything about it. (I told Mrs. T-B. about this; with moderate alarm, she said "Don't teach him!") He loves pulling light-chains and fan-chains in each room... and, of course, when he can't get those, he'll settle for the cat's tail, si man.

Tea. Man. Tea. or in Spanish ...Ti man.

Allas friends come over and of course they have tea and use every dish and cover the dinner table with every spoon, small plate, knife etc. What happened? "Olga 1 came over, we had tea."

OK so speaking of this, does your wife eat preserves, you know jelly with fruit, right from the jar? Very Russian. Take a spoon of the preserves, she likes cherry or apricot, and then take a drink of tea. Guaranteed to mess up a BUNCH of spoons when the gals drop by. Of course when others come she puts the preserves in tiny little china bowls just for this she bought in Ukraine as we nekulturna(not cultured) Americans have nothing of the sort to be found here!

They also use honey or maple syrup (One of Alla's great American discoveries) in their tea...more spoons. This last summer we bought and entore silver set in Ukraine, very low cost compared to here and now she uses silver spoons to serve her tea and preserves.

Yes on preserves. Digs honey too. Same deal. Never liked maple syrup so much.

Alla uses sugar for baking but honey or maple syrup for her coffee or tea. The use of maple syrup for that is very common here (as one might imagine) and of course many people use honey, but the use of preserves while drinking tea was something I saw in Ukraine but never here.

G-Boneva and Mrs. T-B. have this in common, sigh man.
does your wife eat preserves, you know jelly with fruit, right from the jar?
Never, no man. She would rather mess up a clean bowl, sigh man.

Flash (actually, about half as bright as a dead firefly: Too much of Mini-Bone's cake (chocolate with white icing) was left over from the party, so Mrs. T-B. decided to eat it chiefly by herself.

Tonight, every item in our kitchen sink was smeared -- nay, slathered -- in cake-crumbs and icing. This included the approximate 6,998 dishes & utensils in the sink. Somehow today, 19 spoons were somehow used. I ran a very full load of dishes and have just put them away.

Amazingly, Mrs. T-B. had run a load of dishes herself before I came home, gee man. I could tell because the dishwasher's switch (on the kitchen wall) was still "on," see man. That's a sure sign that T-B. will have to empty the machine before loading it, sigh man.

Fortunately, the cake seems to be all gone. Life should be good until Someone again decides that she wants cake, sigh man.

I did extract from her that her amiga Angelina came over today (which explains the dishes on the good table that I had to remove), but that accounted for only 4 of the spoons. Perhaps we should contact the producers of the "Unsolved Mysteries" show, si man.

:wacko::rofl:

I get the same thing when I buy the bucket-o-socks at Costco. She looks in the cart and says

"Why are you buying socks? You have about 1 million socks"

My sock drawer is always empty.

"They are in the basket in the basement"

Hence the need to buy more.

Similar in Russia. I brought a small jar of homegrown, homemade black raspberry preserves to Kiev, when we met for the first time. It was one of my planned "gift a day" deals. Anyways, we open it for a breakfast and she just digs in with a spoon and swallows a big dollop......."Easy there, we have to make it last!!"

Now she knows how to make these same homegrown, homemade preserves or freezer jams and our small freezer in the basement is stocked full. No problem, I have tons of these planted along the fence in the back forty.

Honey, yes....Maple syrup, only on pancakes.....both American and Russian style!!

Phil (Lockport, near Chicago) and Alla (Lobnya, near Moscow)

As of Dec 7, 2009, now Zero miles apart (literally)!
