Newt Gingrich: Child Labor Laws Are 'Stupid'

How backwards can he be? Child Labor Laws were extremely important to the welfare of families. Children used to lose limbs in machinery etc.

What's one limb when you've got four?

On the topic of schools why not take the Japanese example? Students maintain their own classrooms after class etc as a part of class...you know free.

Students have always maintained their own classrooms, but Grinch-grinch wants the little tykes to get out the ammonia, scrub the floors, disinfect the bathrooms with bleach. What better way to teach them chemical safety than to have them clean with potentially toxic products?

In Ukraine the students were required to clean the school everyday after school, EVERY student had a task. When Pasha starte d school here he said the best part was "We do not have to clean the school after class"

Child labor laws are outdated in our society, Gingrich is correct and prevent many young people from being able to get a job and get work experience. Our state allows kids to work at age 14 without a special permit. I just do no tsee where it is a problem, I do no tthink we would have children working in coal mines and safety procedures are so much better now.

We should toss out child labor laws AND minimum wage.

Of course, many employers do exactly this by hiring illegal aliens, no rules apply to them.

Why do you not want the same consideration for illegal aliens? Why do we not severely punish employers that avoid all these laws by hiring illegals? Because the illegals are not white?

Newt's another shining example that you have to have an IQ of -10 in order to become a potential Republican presidential candidate. Seriously it's like they are trying to hand this election to Obama on a silver platter. Last time it was Palin, and now this bunch of knobs.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

You really think that would happen now? Law or no law? Are you kidding? For one thing the pansie-@ss, uber-p*ssy children most people are raising now would be of no use in a coal mine, even after they finish their "playdates" or soccer practice. Their soccer moms would never allow this.

On the other hand a 12 or 13 year old delivering groceries in a bicycle basket to elderly people may be just the ticket for letting someone learn about earning money. There are plenty of jobs young people could do that would not endanger them and allow them to earn some money and dignity.

We have kids working in the grocery stores up here all the time. They are limited as to how many hours per week they can work, but I think that's a good thing for the fact I'm sure they have some kind of homework to do.

Yes, 14 year olds can do that here for 20 hours per week during school periods, no limit during school vacations. 16 year olds can pretty much do anything except power tools. Pasha started working immediately after his 14th birthday, saved all his money, got better jobs and bought a Volvo S80T6 this fall..CASH! Wrote a check from his own account! Then paid 6 months insurance in advance, bought a set of winter tires on plain steel rims.

I see no reason younger people could not do some of these jobs. Even younger than 14. How would it hurt a 12 year old to bag groceries on Saturdays and Sundays at the local store?

Yes, if there were no laws, children might work in dangerous places after their parents sign away their right to litigate should something go wrong. Its not a question of having or not having these laws, its about potentially reforming them. I think it makes perfect sense that 12+ should be able to work in supervised safe environments.

Yeah . . . all these laws protecting the working class and the weak and the children are un-American as they cut into corporate profits. Nothing sexier than watching a 10-year-old cleaning urinals before and after class. Lazy punks! On Sunday the wife and I drove to Lowe's and there was a homeless man with a sign reading "Day Laborer Work for $5.00 and hour. I offered him $2.50 but he declined. F*cking loser. Picked up an illegal immigrant on the way out. He wanted $4.00 per hour but fell off he ladder after only and hour off work. I kicked his as* and told him to hug himself. When he stared at me I threw a can of Mexican beans at him. Goddam roaches. Can't wait for Grinrich to become the Prez to clean up this country and show them childrens what a leather belt can do for motivating them to work harder.

Vote Republican!

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.
