Hello everyone. I'd like to know if an attorney may be necessary or if anyone can provide me with assistance based on your experience. Here is my situation:

My pregnant girlfriend came into the US in June on a tourist visa. We spontaneously got married in September. Her permit expires in a month. She is due in 2 months.

I've been told to file the following forms: I-130, I-485, G-325A (one for each of us), I-765, I-131, I-693 and I-864

Do I need an attorney?

Does the pregnancy complicate things?

I make great money and have health insurance that covers everything; I'm not mooching off the government for anything.

Any recommendations?

Thank you all in advance!

Because of the delicate situation I suggest an attorney. But....its not that complicated to fill out the forms take a look through them you might find them to be easier than you think

But if you think it will be too stressful for your wife and want to get things over with then yea, maybe an attorney is a better way to go

Good Luck!!!

Attorneys only lengthen the process....and take away your money. Your case is not that special; if you do a DNA test and prove that the baby is yours that is actually good proof of a relationship, especially if you are shown at the father on the BC and add the child to your insurance, show that you have assumed financial responsibility. Obviously you know you should only state that she came here honestly as a tourist with all intentions to return but these things then happened and you both truthfully love each other and want to be together and have a family.

If you have time, save money and file it yourself. Only issue will probably be I-693 and getting all the required vaccination since you wife is pregant - suggest to start with this one now since it requires a visit to a Civil Surgeon. Pregnancy does not complicate things. I was approved today just after two months from filing, did everything entirely on my own, no attorney.

An attorney can't change anything, so if you're able to understand and fill out the forms, I'd do it yourself. Be prepared for lots of questions at your interview about her coming here pregnant, if the child is yours, etc. (We were questioned about my daughter's paternity a lot at our interview because we got married after I was pregnant, despite the fact that we'd been together for awhile before that and my husband was already in the country long before that.)

Personally I don't think you need an attorney either. There's nothing they're going to do that you can't do yourself, as long as you can read and follow directions, which I have a feeling you can. ;) Just read through the guide and double and triple check everything before you send it. Good luck!

Even with attorney you would have to devote the same amount of time which you would have to do to get the information on your own. And either way attorney can not magically produce your documents that you have to produce yourself.

Also you have already made one good start by starting on Visa Journey.

I would suggest you to start with VJ guide for AOS from tourist visa, and then go to USCIS website download all the related forms and their instructions (whether you hire an attorney or do on your own you have to understand this anyways). Give it two days read and understand and may be fill the forms as a test. Where you have doubt ask on VJ and see if you can do it on your own.

If then you think you can't do it on your own hire an attorney. Good luck
