Do the Consulates/Embassies conduct business as usual during the holiday season?

no. every thing slows down, many employees have vacations during the holidays,the embassys close for the holidays,things start to get back up it will pick up again in jan with a back log.

As far as I know, the embassies follow American holidays and government offices(including embassies) are closed on American holidays.

They follow both the American holidays AND the holidays in that country where the consulate/embassy is situated. So depending where, it could be double the amount of holidays to contend with.

Exactly correct. For China, it's more than double the US holidays.

Thanks everyone! They've exhausted all the local non-US holidays for the year. It's just Thanksgiving and Christmas left. I hope they don't grind to hault - it's been forever for us!!
