My fiancee lives outside of Iloilo, Philippines. Her english is basic and she seems to be having problems getting her papers. Right now she has everything except her passport. Would like to find someone who could go with her to get her passport and help explain to her what she should or should not say to keep from having more problems than necessary. In the past there seem to be some confusion and the DFA thought she was traveling for a work or with me and were requesting things like my passport and things that did not make sense.

Just like someone who can go with her to the DFA and help her fill out the paper work and explain to her what she needs to say to make the process to go smoothly.

Thanks

My wife is from leyte and just applied for a passport in Tacloban... your wife needs to go to cebu first and have a seminar before she can receive a passport... (we found that out after the fact). headbonk.gif

You do not need to attend a seminar to get the passport. You might be talking about the CFO sticker that can only be obtained from attending CFO seminar attached to the visa or passport before you fly.

His applying for a K-1 visa not a CR-1, so his fiancee did not have to take the CFO seminar to apply for passport (though needed later before his fiancee will leave the country).

I suggest you contact travel agencies that specialized in helping out for passport application. That's what I did when my passport, they do the scheduling for you and will actually assist you during the interview...

I found this site for you: http://corporate.mozcom.com/dot/iloilo2.html

Scroll down and you will find a list of travel agencies in Iloilo City, ask your fiancee to call them if they do passport assistance.

Goodluck!

Hello teapot, apparently its one of the requirements now for wives of foreigners whose intention is to migrate, just learned that too a few months ago.

I know you need to attend CFO seminar no matter what..but another seminar for getting a passport alone? Wow..So that means another fee for CR-1 applicant? I just got my passport last month. Nothing was mentioned to me. Maybe because It stated that I am single, I dunno.

It's not applicable to fiancees. It's only for Filipina wives who want to use the last names of their foreign spouses. I had to do attend the seminar and get the certificate before I could change my name on my passport from maiden to married. If you're married but still want to use your maiden name, then you don't have to attend the seminar before applying for a passport. FYI, it's not an additional expense for CR1/IR1 applicants because it's the same CFO seminar that all K1, CR1, and IR1 visa holders are required to attend before leaving for the U.S. The only difference for me and other spouses who want to use their husbands' names is that we have to attend it before passport application/renewal and visa issuance.

Hello teapot, apparently its one of the requirements now for wives of foreigners whose intention is to migrate, just learned that too a few months ago.

This is my problem if she goes in saying she is getting a passport to Migrate and things.. they ask for things that are not the same requirements for tourist travel. Just need someone who can help her get a hassle free passport for tourist travel. Things like migration does not need to be said to get the passport.

I agree, my fiance got passport 2 months before seminar, but you can only get sticker after obtaining visa.

This is a long process where your fiancee will need to jump through a lot of hoops. If she needs help getting a passport, expect more problems down the road.
