These might sound like silly questions but I've always been told that no question is silly if you want to gain knowledge.

So here are my "silly" questions "DH's IR-1 interview is on Tuesday in London and I was wondering if we should keep all the original documents seperate from the copies? Do we need my US Birth Certificate, Divorce Papers or just my hubby's divorce paper? Do we need copies of our passports?

I'm asking only because some of the originals actually look like copies but they aren't. Right now I have them seperated and placed in a see-through coloured plastic envelope and originals in a clear plastic envelope, with the DS-230 Part II, and my I-864.

Good luck! My husband's interview is the day after yours.

I wasn't going to take copies of our passports since both of them will be with us. Not sure about the divorce papers?

I'm just keeping the copies in plastic pockets with the originals.

Good luck to your hubby as well. I am attending his interview so what I can do is just put the originals/copies together and adding a coloured sticky tab to the originals then I wont get them confused. I did go back to the Embassy website and re-read it and saw that I did need my birth certificate and divorce papers. So much paperwork :bonk: I've got a years supply of both our UK & US bank account statements, just makes the package quite thick.

I vote for keeping photocopy behind original. Put a post-it tag or note on the copy marked "copy".

No photocopy of the passport is needed.

All that is needed from the USC is the Affidavit of Support, tax return, and an additional proof of income for just in case. They have your documents in the file from the petition and wouldn't have approved it without your divorce decree, proof of US citizenship (birth certificate), etc.

Here's London's list to review. Where they say "applicant", they mean the one who applied for the visa (him).

http://london.usembassy.gov/application_documents.html It doesn't list documents from the USC, only the applicant.

Notice they say:

Applications processed by the National Visa Center In New Hampshire - If your sent
NVC
your documents, they will have been forwarded to the Immigrant Visa Unit together with your application. All that you will be required to furnish on the day of the interview is your passport and three color photographs. However, please review the Document Checklist before attending the interview. If any of the documents were not sent to the National Visa Center, you will be required to obtain them and present them on the day of the interview.

That indicates that the docs you are taking are "just in case" because they are supposed to have them from the NVC.

Sorry, I see you didn't process at NVC. Corrected my answer.

Good luck! I'm in Korea, but I'm bringing one binder with th originals, and one with the copies. Crossing fingers for you.

Many thanks everyone. I've decided to have the originals use a green sticky tab on them and to have the copy directly behind the other. I'll keep all my important documents like the birth certificates, marriage certificate, divorce papers, DS-230 Part II, I-864, etc. in the green plastic envelope, and the others like the proof for domicle, bank statements, tax returns, etc. in the clear plastic envelope. So much paperwork and not enough space. :)

I'll let you all know how we get on tomorrow. :star:

Had the interview today and well we were UNSUCCESSUL and was instructed to obtain a joint sponsor :crying: . Here is our situation, it's just myself and hubby so the 125% poverty level needed for household of two is $18,388. The only income to carry over from the UK is $6,841. The rest was made up from our assets. So from my understanding since I am only sponsoring my spouse I would need 3X that amount $55,164, however since we have an income I would need to take the difference from $18,388 -$6,841 =$11,547 multiply that figure $11,547 x 3= $34,641 is the actual figure I would need to use from my assets.

We had $37,637 cash in the bank, and then using the US house (mortgage free) $88,000 giving us $125,637 total. (Embassy emailed me and said I could use my US house as long as we showed ownership etc, the CO said no, its not for sale and it isn't a house in the UK, what's the difference UK/US house) ugggggh

The CO said that I needed to have 5x the amount not 3X, and said that we were off by $15,000. She wouldn't use his pension income nor the house. We said but from my understanding from the I-864 I needed 3x not 5x because I was sponsoring my spouse. She said NO, I will comfirm this and then she took off, came back and said No, I'm correct, and said you need to have 5x and where is the proof of the pension income. We said it's right there in front of you, she said OH, I'm still saying you need 5x and you are still refused, so get a joint sponsor and courier that info back to us.

Can anyone please double check my figures, am I correct in my understanding of the I-864 and if not, please what is reuired then from a joint sponsor? My BIL says he'll sponsor us but needs to know what is actually reuired then from him. His household size will be including my spouse is 5, so that will be 125% $32,712 he makes above that by 30%. Is that all he'll need to show he earns or is it some other figure like 3 times that or 5x that amount?

If we are correct in our figures can we appeal to the Consulate and have them re-investigate my initial I-864, what are my optios?

Please help, totally confused,
