Hello, I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, I hope it is! Please point me in the right direction if I am wrong hehe.

My girlfriend is currently living in the Philippines and is a Filipino citizen, but her father is Japanese. She lived in Japan for 4 years before problems arose, and she had to go back to Philippines. Now, the time has come and she wants to come back to Japan, however, her father is no longer in her life. Is there a way that her Japanese ancestry alone could get her a long-term visa in Japan?

If this isn't possible in any way, would it be possible to get a student visa through a Japanese University? Is it difficult for a Filipino? What processes need to be taken? I've been searching all night and can't find much information at all about Filipino student visas. Maybe I'm just too tired haha (~.~)zz

Additional details: She is 17 years old, would this be a problem as she would be considered a minor?

Thanks in advance, any information would be helpful, as she is really keen to come back to Japan, but we just cannot find the most appropriate method to be together again, or rather, we cannot find any method at all apart from marriage - we're just not ready, we're still young!

This forum is actually for people who's trying to get US visa.

But to answer your question, yes that is possible specially if her father really recognize her and he's signed on her Birth Certificate. You just need a good lawyer to help you out.

Good Luck in your search.
