Hi, we have an approved I-130. We would like to know what steps are necessary to upgrade the status for my beneficiary once I become a U.S. citizen.

1. What are the steps needed to put in an effective request to “upgrade” the approved I-130? Could those of you who have gone through this process share some of your experiences in detail?

2. Where can we find the official guide for upgrading I-130 on the USCIS website?

3. Based on your experience, Should my beneficiary wait for their green card interview in their home country, or have them come to the U.S. first and then file for Adjustment of Status? Which way is better and faster? The beneficiary is from China.

4. Do you have a list of documents/records you suggest me and my beneficiary start preparing now?

Thank you for your time and input.

I've heard some attorneys claim that it's better for the beneficiary to take their interview in their native country and others state that it's better to bring them over on a K visa for the interview here in the U.S.

Any inputs from personal experiences?

Thanks.
