My question doesn't seem to be easily answered here or anywhere else that I have read so I will make it as simple as possible...

My wife and I were married in March of 2010

She officially became a permanent resident (with 2 year conditional status) as of May 2011

I am a citizen and have been my entire life, with no travel outside of the US exceeding 10 days

She will not be traveling outside the US for more than a week or two per year from here on out

Will we be able to file for citizenship for her in March of 2013 or do we have to wait until May of 2014?

As I understand it she will have to wait until 3 years from the date that she officially became a permanent resident but it doesn't seem crystal clear...

Any guidance on this matter, especially if someone else has gone through the same, would be much appreciated!!!

P.S. The urgency lies in her ability to petition for her mother's citizenship from child to parent as soon as possible.

Thanks,

Justin

She can apply 90 days before the 3 year anniversary of the date her greencard was issued. Sounds like that is sometime in March 2014 for her.

My question doesn't seem to be easily answered here or anywhere else that I have read so I will make it as simple as possible...

Was in the same boat when I met this woman from a foreign country I wanted to marry and live here. Now that was complicated, as a natural born US citizen, pretty much know the government does everything with forms. Did hear about the INS, first bit of confusion, was changed to the USCIS because of 9/11, but after finding and getting into the USCIS form site, many different ways to bring a person here, so which form to use.

As typical with the IRS, just can't read the form to know what its about, have to also read the instructions. Already had my share of problems with the IRS by choosing the wrong form from a choice of 1,025 forms and even though they say you only need to save your forms for three years, they can go over your last five years of returns. Form seemed right, numbers were right, didn't have to pay any additional taxes, but it was a nightmare as this dragged on for a year. As I was working 14 hours a day, didn't want to screw this up, just found a first class immigration attorney and he guided me. After that it was easy, only two forms to learn, the I-751 for removal of conditions, and the N-400 for US citizenship, N-600 came into play, did have a stepdaughter, but this process took so long, she turned over 18, surprised she wasn't a grandmother with these delays.

If your spouse received a condition permanent resident card because you weren't quite married two years yet, your key concern at this time is to learn all about that I-751 and now is the time to start to gather evidence. With that under your belt, have another year to learn all about the N-400 with even more evidence.

Its all HERE!

You will find brain twisting questions on these forms, can come back then to get the answers.
