Any advice regarding name change after marriage?

I recently entered the US and married my fiance after a successful K1 application.

My intention is to take my husband's name, however after applying for AOS, we will be applying for my license as a physiotherapist in the UK to be transferred to physical therapy over here, which will require examination of my high school and university transcripts etc etc. Currently we are only just coping with all the filing fees required (on one wage) and I am worried that if I change my name on AOS, then I will be required to pay to change my name on all the other documents in my name with regard to school and professional practice in the UK? Am I wrong in assuming this?!

If I change my name with AOS will I need to get a new passport for my green card?

Any help gratefully accepted!! I have never given much thought previously to the name change aspect of the visa process and all the other places that I will have to inform of my name change!!

yes, you're assumption is not right, fortunately. yes if you change your name for AOS then you will get your GC is that new name but you don't need to change your passport name to that too unless you reported your marriage to your UK registry (or married there a second time or something), because you show your GC only for coming back/entering the US, not for going out, and most certainly you will not be required to change your name is your past (no longer current) docs such as school transcripts (you weren't married then so it doesn't make sense, right?) however for applying for a new license, i can imagine that you will need to submit your marriage license (and probably other proofs of change in civil status that entity might require) but that should be it =)

P.S> but if you have the time and money to apply for a new passport with your GC name (after you get it of course) then you may do so too =)

My opinion is get your geencard in the name you want to use in the US for the rest of your life. Renew your passport when it is about to expire. It's expensive to do it from the US, so save the money for now. Use your marrige certificate as proof of a legal name change for travel, licenses, social security, and any other purpose involving different names.

Agree with Nich-Nick esp for Uk reasons. It's like US$200 to change your passport here and $100 if you do it in the UK. There is no reason to change your passport, you'll just need to remember what name to put on your documents.
