Consular Report of Birth Abroad questions

I have a few questions regarding the Consular Report of Birth Abroad for those of you who have gone through the process.

I am in the United States right now and my daughter is in Colombia with her mother. I am filing the CRBA application, but it says that the application is generally signed in front of a consular officer but in certain circumstances may be signed in front of a notary public overseas. Since I am in the U.S., would a notary public be acceptable or would I actually have to fly all the way to Colombia to sign the application in front of a consular officer?

I am also applying for my daughter's passport and Social Security Number. Is there any certain way that I must mail the package to the US Embassy (USPS certified or something), and how do I pay the fees and who do I write them out to?

Thank you.

You have to be present in order to do a crba, they are also going to interview you and the mother. I just did one for my son this year. Put the paperwork together and sign in front of the counsular. The crba can not be done without you being present. PM me if you need more details.

Regards,

i dont think you have to be present... and on the form it says to sign before a consular officer or authourized individual... and public notaries are authorized to do so... you need to get your parental consent for passport notarized and DS 5507 (part III) notarized as well.

I am also in the US and in the process of filing CRBA for my son in the philippines and filing IR1 for my wife

if you haven't already, you should download and fill out:

DS 11

DS 2029

DS 3053

DS 5507

Although its not required to be present, it does help. otherwise sending in the proper forms and documents should suffice. As far as signing in front of a consular,... I'm pretty sure that a public notary is authorized also... but i'm not 100% sure on that... please let me know what you find out. Good luck!
