Just wanted to pop in and say I'm so proud of folks telling folks not to give medical advice if they're not docs! You have renewed my faith! (I'm a nurse and am constantly telling people that no, I can't give them medical advice and even if, I know nothing about their problems because I *only* take care of sick infants).

For the other posters--it's not right to give advice about what types of drugs to use because you don't know if the OP has any other chronic or acute conditions that would be adversely affected. The consequences can be severe leading up to and including death. Even something as innocuous as recommending ibuprofen during pregnancy can cause fetal death (miscarriage) by prematurely closing chambers in the heart that allow oxygenated blood to flow through its body.

OP, there are many urgent care clinics available that are usually a bit cheaper than an ER. Do a google search, give them a call beforehand to ask for prices. I think in my area (DC) they're about $100 for a consultation...

Um, because a bad lawyer won't cause your death and unlicensed medical advice could! Please see my above post!

I'm a pharmacy tech, in my second year of pharmacy school...

You can not get Tylenol with Codine, or Robaxin from the pharmacy here, with out a prescription. Every state has different laws from their board of pharmacy of what they can stock and give as 'behind the counter'. You can ask a pharmacist at the corner drug store your issue and see if they can give you something.

America is full of the un/under insured. If you do go to a local hospital, many have 'charity care' or offer services at a steep discount for those not insured. You may also check with local churches in your area that have free medical clinics.

Like another poster said, there are lots of small clinics where you see a nurse practitioner and they can prescribe you drugs to help your situation. Keep in mind the majority of these clinics will not prescribe any controlled/scheduled drugs (narcotics, muscle relaxants/anti anxiety) There are some muscle relaxants that are not under control and you MIGHT get a prescription. Otherwise you will probably only a script for a prescription strength NSAID. Also a lot of these clinics do not have the capability to do lab work or take x-rays, and they will probably tell you to go the emergency room anyway.

Doctors in private practice are not required by law to see patients with out insurance. It's their choice. Some do, some don't and some will; if you pay them cash up front.

You may also want to check with a chiropractor or massage therapist.

In the mean time, if you wish to take any over the counter NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Naproxen PLEASE please, please follow the directions on the packages.

hey all, first off sorry if this isnt going in the right spot usually my posts go into the canada forum but i dont think thats where this should go now. Iv been in the u.s. under the same roof as my soon to be hubby for approximately 3 weeks now yaay! we'r supposedly getting married by next friday (just walking into the courthouse doing our thing) about 4 days ago i walked into a little problem being here in the u.s. i really hurt my back, (probably had to do with the three day drive in a very uncomfortable uhaul and moving box's and furniture) but yeah i did. not the first time iv gotten a pitched nerve, but i think its a little more then that like i think i slipped a disk. Back in canada (quebec) id just go to the pharmacy and get some robaxin. but i have learned now that you cant get that here!!!! at leas not without a prescription, you also cant just go to the pharmacy and ask for tylanol with codeine in it cuz they look at you all real weird and think your some kind of alien addict or something. uhm so i have no insurance yet, cant really go to the hospital or dr's ####### do i do?? is there any u.s. equivalent that i can get? is there any kinda of muscle relaxant you can get in the u.s. without a prescription? anyone have any ideas or help of n e kinda to offer? im feeling a little lost in a land i dont know well.

You think that's bad? Get this, you can't even get birth control pills or items like nova ring off the counter.it's crazy
