Hello all,

So my loveyl guy in waiting fora response on his I751 and heard that there was a "stamp" or "sticker" that he should get on his (now out of date) Greencard in order to visit his family in Canada and still return...anyone know anything about this?

I thought it was only necessary to bring the paperwork from Vermont in order to travel...

Not clear what stage you're at - your profile says K1 but you're referring to your 'husband (?)' as having a GC? Clear that up and we can probably answer in a more informed manner!

PS - if he is Removing connditions on his 2 yr GC - his NOA is what he needs as the proof of extension while he is waiting for ROC to be completed

When did your husband file to remove conditions? Once he files he should receive a letter notifying him that the petition had been received. This same letter also states that the validity of his green card has been extended for one year, which means he still has the same residency, travel and work rights as he did before the 2 year green card expired. He is supposed to carry this letter and use it in conjunction with his existing green card as the 1 year extension is measured from the date on the green card. He can travel out of the US and safely return as long as he has that letter and the green card.

So, if the 'paperwork from Vermont' you are referring to is the letter acknowledging receipt of his I-751 and extending his green card''s validity for one year, then yes, he is good to go and visit his family in Canada and safely return to the US as long as it is within the year's validity date of the extension.

If your husband has not received the letter of receipt extending his green card and he filed more than 30 days ago, then he needs to make an Infopass appointment with your local USCIS office. He can bring the evidence of his filing and the biometrics letter (if he has it) as proof of filing, (although he will probably not need that) his green card and his unexpired passport. They will look up his information using his A number, verify that he has filed for ROC and then stamp his valid passport with an I-551 stamp that is valid for one year. The stamp will be valid from the date of stamping which will be a different date than is on the green card. He will need to carry his passport with him as that is now his proof of residency. He can travel out of the US and return with the valid I-551 stamp in his passport.

If he has been waiting for more than one year for his ROC to be approved, and the extension letter has expired then he would also need to make an Infopass appointment to get the I-551 stamp placed in his valid passport.

If his passport is expired and he needs to have the stamp placed in his passport because he has not received the receipt letter, or the current receipt letter is expired, then he needs to bring his expired passport along with 2 passport style photographs to the Infopass. USCIS will prepare an I-94 visa document for him using the photographs and then stamp the I-94 in his passport with the I-551 stamp which will then act like his green card. He can also travel and return safely in this case as well.

I hope this helps :) .
