Replacement card

My husband lost his wallet, and everything inside (driver's license, GC, credit cards, etc etc). I know we have to apply for I90 replacement of GC. Anyone know how long it takes for approval, and if it's tough to get one? He has to get his biometrics done again, right? I'm assuming so because they ask for the biometrics fee.

Does he need to file a police report? I'm so pissed at him, because it's going to cost us $450, and he's so careless with his wallet. He leaves it everywhere. I hope he learns his lesson this time.

Here's the form: http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-90instr.pdf Not tough to get a new one, yes to biometrics (to prove it's him getting his card). It can take quite some time to get a replacement. 3-6 months. If he needs proof of status he should make an infopass to get an I-551 stamp in his passport (He'll need to take the I-90 NOA1).

Yes he should file a police report, though it's not required for the I-90, it's a good idea. Someone out there has his ID. He should ALWAYS report that so if anything happens from now (and someone uses his ID to do it) there's proof he lost it (or said he did).

I personally don't carry my GC because I have a drivers licence. It's kept in a safe place at home (unless I travel then I carry it). Given the cost to replace it and the importance of the document. A lot of people carry laminated colour copies of the card (I don't yet because I haven't gotten around to getting it done).

The Green Card does not belong in the wallet. Driver's license, credit card, photo of wife and dog, condom, all okay, but not the Green Card.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

I efiled my I90 form i filed to change my surname though so you'll have to look at the instructions as to efiling. Sometimes you can efile and sometimes you can't. I'm in ca and I was told it would take 3 to 4 months after my biometric appt. to receive my card.

It states on the form when you first receive your GC not to carry it on you...

Really? It does? Would you still have a copy of that? Would you mind scanning and posting it? That would be good to see!

I found the GC form that my GC came on. It says you don't need to carry your "citizen card" (not the same as a GC). It doesn't say anything about the GC not being carried.

It's absolutely and very firmly the law to carry one's green card at all times. An immigration attorney whom I recently consulted said that if you plan to break the law and not carry the green card, but instead to carry a color copy of it, make an enlarged copy so that you might avoid being arrested for counterfeiting an official document. He also said that CBP/ICE is quite humorless when it comes to people who don't carry their actual green card. (I plan to call several CBP posts to learn their range of reactions.) Finally, the attorney said that if you're detained or arrested for not carrying your green card, you must report this on your ROC and citizenship petitions.
