Ok vj'ers asawa is coming on Monday so i guess its time to prepare lol. During this whole experience u think u have plenty of time, and then all of a sudden its here. So the questions are, and this is for the banas and the asawas lol

1) what should i be getting to make her first days comfortable ..food, personal items. Yes Yes i know rice, but being an potato guy what do i know about rice lol.

any other food you might think of?

2) any items that your asawa wanted to bring and forgot, or wished she had brought with her but didnt think of it

3) lol hat and gloves and coat might be good lol

Anyway any ideas, that you all might have would be great, looking forward to hear about your experience in this matter .

1. Ask her what she wants. Lol. Filipino canned goods? Find the nearest Filipino grocery stores around your area too. Instead of her bringing bulky stuff (who does anyway?!) and other stuff, buy her nice and comfy personal stuff like bathrobes etc. I was happy when I came here, my mother in law put a set of pink stuff in the bathroom. I suggest you take her out shopping for personal items she needs. Get a nice rice cooker! I recommend Zojirushi rice cooker.

2.I didn't forget any items back at home since I can get them here at cheaper prices and better quality. All I could think of were important documents such as Birth Cert, Diploma, Transcript of records and other documents needed for AOS.

3. Where do you live? It's gonna be winter time soon so I suggest taking her coat shopping. I suggest buying long sleeve blouses, scarves, gloves, hoodies, boots, coats and down coats gradually so she'll be "equipped" for the winter. Weather here in the midwest freezes my @$$ off! And it's not even winter yet! I recommend TJ Maxx, Marshalls and Kohls.

Oh I forgot. Get TFC!!!

Excellent news!!

I was going to mention rice cooker but see that has been covered. For sure some of her basic comfort foods and snacks, if you have to ask her what those are you haven't been paying enough attention  ... . Sorry... yup ask if you are not sure. For the most part its hard to answer your question as a lot depends on where she lived in the Phils - big city, small village... makes a big difference on what they are used to.

Amy's favorite food is Italian, go figure, but then so is mine. And I am in the midst of gathering recipes so I can cook foods she enjoys... yes I am the cook in our house. Last thing I wanted was a woman messing with my kitchen.

She might want to bring a couple of months of personal care products... Shampoo, lotions, Meds etc... As it is more then likely

the brands she uses,,, will not be available. This will give a bit of time to find suitable replacements... And believe me it

WILL be trial and error. We have several bottles of FAILED substitutes.

Good Luck...

You don't need to do anything right now except to give her your love and support.

When she gets here, she will need you. Be there for her. Take a week off of work and spend it together.

Go shopping together. Warm clothes and filipino food staples are a must.

Enjoy! :star:

Kevin there is not much we have had to get. We went to Sams and got the required big bag of rice. I put some juices etc in the fridge. It appears Spam is real big over there. As far as clothes, I sent her shopping with with an Americanized pinay friend of mine. To be honest I am a little surprised at how quickly MJ has adapted and how little she has needed.

In most of the USA, if you look, you can find just about everything you can find in the Philippines. I live in a mid-sized area that is mostly white and I was suprised to find a source of balut less than 3 miles from my house.

The trick is learning to shop at places other than Safeway and WalMart.
