Look into Alberquerque(sp) NM. Lots of chillies there to help you prepare proper dinners for your hubby.

Prolly not as cheap as 'Bama though.

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Another place I'd like to visit. My dad lived there for a couple years when he was a teenager (he had run away from his home in Philly and stayed in Alb for a couple years. :innocent: ). So I've always heard stories about it. He liked it but eventually went back to Philly to be with the family.

Oh well if it would help me continue to make proper dinners, I should seriously consider it.

The things that scare me:

~Moving to the real south by moving to Alabama---Florida is not very southern, I am mostly around Northerners who moved here from NY. And I like that. I'm not sure how I'll feel there.

you will more than likely be welcomed and feel quite at home ;)

~Getting a southern accent---yes it's silly but I do not want a southern accent! And my future kids...my future cute mixed babies may get southern accents.

not the most terrible thing in the world, but if you actively work on their speech, they wont develop much of an accent… i live in NJ now and everyone is SHOCKED when i tell them that i am from AL, because i don’t have an accent (nor did i from day one, so they say)

but, i will say that i proudly use "yall" and eat grits

~There is more of a chance of tornadoes in that area than in Florida (I know, it's silly)

very true… but less of a chance in the Gadsden/Ft Payne area than in the flatter areas more central and south... and those chances are much less than that of the hurricanes you face now

~What if we hate it?

move back ?

~Alabama is associated with lots of things that make me feel creeped out, like how it handled the civil rights movement and the racism. But I know that was a long time ago and in my friend's town, it's very artsy fartsy, which I like, and is getting more cultural these days.

there are dark and unpleasant things associated with nearly any place to live, either in the US or elsewhere… places shouldn’t be judged merely by their history… look and see what things are like now… there is less racism in AL than i have seen in the other places i have lived (NC and NJ)… working in philly, i see more racism than you could imagine… its quite scary… but the folks i work with love to talk about how racist the south is, even tho they’ve never been… ive even had one person tell me that she would never even consider driving thru any portion of the south because some backwoods cop would stop her for no reason and probably rape her… the murder and violent crime rate here is exponentially greater than anything i have seen or heard of in AL… ironic, isn’t it?

Things that make me happy:

~Near mountains

~They actually have seasons compared to Florida, yet do not have very cold winters like up north

~I know people that live there that are awesome

~It's close to several cities. It's within 2 hours drive to Atlanta, about an hour to an hour and a half to Birmingham or Chattanooga

~Living in a cute house instead of an ugly Florida house and how cheap they are---I guess growing up in FL I am just sick of these style houses.

~Lower cost of living

um, all very true and wonderful reasons

i have personally found a thicker accent and more 'rednecks' in NC, WV and VA than in AL… i was raised in AL, the Birmingham area, and stayed there for 27 years… AL, and Birmingham in particular, are very unfairly judged… UAB is world renowned for medical education and draws many very smart ppl from all cultures… there is a large indian population that noone from outside Birmingham bothers to acknowledge…

you could have a very happy and comfortable life there if you want it ;)

best of luck with your decision!

Gee Stina... I just move here and now you want to leave?!!! :o:blink::crying:

I have to agree with Daniel... I'd love to go to New Mexico, and that was a possiblity because of White Sands, but there weren't any jobs there at the time I took this job.

Even though you want to leave Florida... I am very happy I moved here, and can see us staying for a long time. :)
