Hey everyone,

Good news...my husband received his perminent residence permit to come live and work in the US with me. I'm not sure if this is the place to post this, but I'll try anyway.

Can anybody tell me how long after entering the US and after giving the approved packet of information to the immigrations at the airport upon first entrance, does it take to receive the actual greencard and social security number in the mail? We're just curious how long to expect to wait for those 2 things.

Thanks

Well, when my husband applied for his residence permit, he checked a box on the application to automatically have the SSN sent to him in the mail after entering the US...he shouldn't have to go into the office to apply for it since he checked the box on the residence permit application. So, I'm wondering how long we will wait for it to be sent in the mail after doing it the way we did it? Thanks for your helps though.

My wife received her Green card 3 weeks after entering the USA through Los Angeles on 26 September 2011, but after more than 6 weeks she's still waiting on her SS card, and she checked the box on her application too. I called SS at their 800 number and the woman said that it could take awhile longer, but if we wanted we could go to our local SS office to check.

Should be about a month (or less) for both. If you want to wait 2 weeks and then go to the SSA to apply for the GC that's fine. I know you ticked the form but that doesn't always work unfortunately
