Stupid idea. Nobody needs to carry a concealed weapon.

every state that has implemented it has had reduced crime. Opposing it is favoring an increase in crime. Wisconsin just implemented it this month, we will now see their crime rate drop. How does a law that is proven to reduce crime qualify as "stupid"?

The House gave gun rights advocates their first legislative win of the year in a move that some saw as a Republican reversal on protecting states' rights: approval of a federal regulation that would require states that issue concealed-weapons permits to honor such permits from other states.

The GOP-led chamber approved the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act of 2011, intended to allow gun owners to travel more easily from state to state without worrying about whether their concealed carry permit was valid.

The measure passed, 272-154, with 43 Democrats crossing party lines to support it.

The legislation is not expected to be taken up by the Democratic-led Senate. A similar measure failed in the Senate in 2009, although it won support from 20 Democrats.

Opponents saw a conflict with another GOP priority -- states' rights. They argued that the proposed law would override state laws that determine who should be allow to carry a concealed weapon.

Forty states already allow some form of concealed-weapons permits reciprocity, advocates said.

Since only stupid people carry concealed weapons given that your chances of surviving an armed confrontation with a violent felon are reduced by a factor of 5 as opposed to being unarmed, there is no need to propagate the stupidity any further.

Not at all. In fact it corrects an injustice which seems to plague only gun owners. Yoru drivers license is valid in all states for a temporary period of time, this is the same. Your marriage license is valid in all states. The constitution, in fact, requires states to honor these. For some reason some states have unconstitutionally restricted this among gunowners.

FWIW 38 states now already have reciprocity of CCW licenses, but there were a few loopholes and and exceptions. For instance, Vermont, which does not have permits and does not rewquire them...add to that Alaska, Arizona and Wyoming now also have this arrangement. What about us?

This would actually only affect a few states and only on a temnoproray basis as people travel through etc.

The original bill would require other states to recognize the drivers licenses of states with "constituional carry" as concealed carry permits. This would now include Alaska, Arzona and Wyoming in addition to Vermont

Your more knowledgeable on the gun laws, so would you know off hand if an American citizen can or cannot carry a loaded handgun in the Peoples Republic of California?

I am sure you can google a coup of serious incidents in the big cities but really it just doesn't happen. That's why the Police are not armed - it would only encourage the criminals to be armed. Someone has to break the cycle and the police broke the cycle so that felons don't need guns and for all practical purposes, the criminals can be assumed not to have them.

The criminals don't have guns because the penalties are severe and availability is difficult and their opponents, the householders and police don't have them so there is no need
