That pic was taken less than a 1/4 mile from the front door of my wife's work place. The sow in that pic had just killed a young male who went for her cubs the day before, hence the reason her nose is hanging off her by a thread of skin. I had several like her walk through my yard the summer before last.

You would need something more than a concealed permit gun if she decided you were unwanted in the area

Try this

You could probably tow that right up to the Pennsylvania Avenue, and nary a cop would give it a second thought, especially if you looked like those guys in the photo.

This probably sounds pretty bad, but the three bear Iv'e whacked up here have all been gotten from the city land fill. One in Hope, and two here in Dillingham. Bear love dumps/land fills and it's like shooting fish in a barrel. You sit in your truck with your windows rolled down and suck on beer until you see them hopping along. It's "wham, bam and done". No hiking, no camping, no nothing...that involves too much time and money.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Chicks have no qualms about how and who they do in when they lose control.

That's because they get away with it.

It seems many states already honor PA's permit holders

It's not about SOME states honoring it... it's about ALL states honoring it.

Sounds very sporting.

Ah that's a beaut! :)

Yeah they are nice, the Marine Corps uses the same model. I hated to part with that kind of cash for a shotgun, but it sure is a lot of fun to shoot.

I agree. It should be up to each state if they want to reciprocate. By the Feds forcing the states to reciprocate could cause states to make laws undoing concealed handguns.

That's a very real fear, one way to stick a finger in the eyes of the Fed... with a now 'take that!'

What if all these big bad bogey men you are frighten of, jump you in between the garage and the bedroom ?

I mean honestly, where do you people live ?

Wouldn't you be better saving your gun money to buy a house in a better area ?

The gun safe is in the garage, a weapon locked in the safe in the garage is unless when I'm in the house.

That would be good advice if I lived in a war zone.

My area is not a problem, we do get thugs from L.A. that rob banks here occasionally.

I always hear people say things like, "I would carry a gun in a bad neighborhood at night." But that's not what concealed carry is all about. Sure, it makes sense to arm yourself when you're facing an increased probability of being victimized but it makes just as much sense - probably even more - to arm yourself against the unknown. You could be attacked at any time and any location.

That's why reciprocity is so important.

Area is everything.

I lived in a nice little town where a cow getting out of a field was headline news - but 10 miles away in the city was a nest of Jamaican yardy boys and they were all high on crack and armed to the teeth

I would get out of any area where I thought I needed a gun

If I opened a 24 hour beer shop in Detroit it would make sense - but opening a 24 hour beer shop in Detroit doesn't make sense

There is a reason why I have never been blown up by a Sunni Muslim car bomber in Iraq

Nothing guarantees a failed assailant better than not being within 5 miles of him

I'm just cringe at spending more than $700.00 for any weapon. I'm lucky to have made my needed purchases in the mid and late 90's, now I buy because I like something.

.

I agree with you, nice neighborhoods with expensive homes, give people a very false sense of security.

I do not suffer from that mentality of thinking nice cars and houses make things safer. Thugs have guns and will travel.

A sore afraid new world - to quote Duran Duran

Makes you wonder how people in Europe survive without a gun for self defense

I served 6 years in two police forces there - 10 days on and 1 day off for 6 years including detective work - and I never saw a gun or saw a gunshot victim

The US should work on getting it's society like that

It could be done - firstly by having gun licenses for people and registration of guns - then severe penalties for having a gun without a license or an unregistered gun. Follow that up with proper checking of people before they got guns. I ticked a box to say I was sane - that's not good enough.

I have 5 guns including an AR-15 with 30 round mags and I just sold three 303's - but it is too easy - its not safe.

It's not a slippery slope because States already restrict guns - Illinois is really tight - but they don't put the effort into checking people.

Some States already tie guns down hard (in theory) within the constitution - so what I am proposing would not stop any sane responsible gun owner from doing what they do now

Anyone who objects to people being checked as sane/safe before they get a gun is irresponsible and contributing to gun crime problems

All sales via a dealer and after a federal form. I bought my last 303 in a car park in Seattle - he got it out of his trunk in front of a jewelers shop window (should have seen their faces) - I gave him the cash- he drive off. That's the deal here. Crazy !

I can see the points on both sides in regards to where you choose to live and having a gun on you. I was raised in a farm town and even though crime was just about non existant, there were a few ghastly murders that would make the hair on your head stand up. On the flip side...people that choose to live in neighborhoods/area's with a high crime rate should get a tattoo on their forehead that says something like; "I choose to be an idiot".

No thanks! "The right to keep and bear arms" is not about self defense, it is a check against a tyrannical government.
