People Killed Because of Seat Belts

People Killed by Vehicle Air Bags

OK so I am going to address more silliness without calling anyone silly (heaven forbid)

First

Concealed carry REDUCES crime in every jurisdiction where it has been implemented for the past 25 years in 44 states (5 in 1986 to 49 now) Concealed carry does NOT eliminate all crime. But it is an improvement. Just like seat belts and air bags REDUCE injuries and deaths even though they do not eliminate ALL inuries and death and sometimes even CAUSE injuries and death. But if 500 people died before airbags and 300 people died after airbags, should we focus on the THREE or FOUR that died BECAUSE of airbags? THAT would be silly.

Citations?

Simple.

In 1986 5 states allowed concealed carry, 49 do now. If concealed carry did not have a proven record of reducing crime then the legislatures and Governors of 44 states are either STUPID or run by "rednecks from the panhandle" Neither is the case. It would be silly to suggest that

If concealed carry did not reduce crime then at least ONE of those 44 states would have repealed their concealed carry law. None have. If concealed carry did not reduce crime then at least ONE of these 44 states would have AT LEAST made concealed carry MORE restrictive. NONE have. MANY have made their concealed carry law LESS restrictive, 4 have even gone to doing away with concealed carry licenses and just allow anyone to carry like Vermont. I would be silly to think that would happen if concealed carry did not reduce crime.

If you just want to increase crime, say so.

I will do you a deal, if I don't call you silly, would you refrain from calling me silly ?

Argue on the facts without throwing personal stuff like that about because eventually it comes back in spades

I just did. I look forward to your response

I will have to take your word for it, as I last read that book and the trilogy sequel some 40 years ago.

Or because no communist regime ever allowed its citizens to carry concealed weapons without a permit

One thing for sure, our state government has no fear of its citizenry.

Sometime after 1977 when the wackos began taking over the NRA.

http://www.vpc.org/nrainfo/chapter1.html

I joined in 1973 and did not need to be referred. My father joined in 1939 and did not need to be referred. So WHEN did you quit?

I am full yaware of the 1977 annual meetings, I was there, I voted in that major change and I do not regret it one bit. It was because of that vote that we have now made all the progress we have.

Within 10 years of that vote...

1. The GCA of 1968 was repealed

2. We began implementing concealed carry laws

3. we began implementing Range protection laws

4. The Firearms Owners Protection Act was passed

5. we endorsed the first candidate for President on the history of the organization, Ronald Reagan.

Incidentally, very few Presidents were NOT members of the NRA. Richard Nixon was not, neither was Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama. ALL others since 1871 were members of the NRA

Now, 34 years later, we have the Heller decision, the McDonald decision, 49 states with concealed carry, the elimination of frivolous lawsuits meant to bankrupt manufacturers, increased law enforcement training, Eddie the Eagle child firarm safety program, Hunter Education in 50 states, hunter harassment laws in all 50 states..and the list goes on and on and on. That meeting in Cincinnatti had probably more impact on the laws of this country and the rights of more citizens in ths country than any other single act.

For those unaware, the NRA had been a hunting/shooting organization and basically the regulatory function for all firearms competition. It also supported collectors. Sort of the AAA of gun owners.

Jimmy Carter was applying heavy pressure to ban handguns, register firearms etc. The NRA had been pretty weel ineffective against the GCA of 1968. There came a time to choose which road to take. Either we, as an organization, focus on the RIGHTS of firearms owners or we would have NO FIREARMS with which to hunt, shoot, collect etc. We would be the "AAA" without automobiles!

Some people thought it was not the job of the NRA to be in politics. It was dirty business and would cost a lot of money, etc. They just wanted to shoot and sit around and talk about guns. Let someone else protect our rights.

I am proud to say that I was in the majority that said "If not NOW, then when? If not US, then who?" We overturned the "old Guard" installed new talented leadership that would not compromise on our rights...your rights...and I am damn proud to have been (and still am) a part of that.

If anyone quit because of that, I will tell them now...GOOD RIDDANCE, GLAD YOU BAILED OUT! THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

You cannot be part of the solution, then get the HELL out of the way!

Incidentlay this vote on this issue was at the behest of the NRA, though I do not agree with this aprticular tactic. I will explain.

The NRA wanted to FORCE a vote on this issue to get the House of Representatives (at least) to go on record as to their support or not of this issue. This is being done in time to get it in the January issue (1st week of December) of the "American Rifleman" and "American Hunter" and "Insights" (NRA monthly publications sent to members) and the results will be published for use in upcoming primary elections.

The Senate will probably not vote on it.

Good news is that it gives people anidea where their representatives stand. Maybe.

Bad news? When it is clear that the law has no chance of passing the Senate or being signed by Obama, then Representatives may abstain from voting or even vote FOR the bill (voting against gun rights is always more politicially hurtful than voting FOR gun rights)

Better to go by the NRAs grading system which is based on the elected reps history of votes.

The bill will hang around and it will pass when the proper dynamics are in place.

Very few of my gun enthusiast friends are members of the NRA anymore. However, if you want to attend your NRA Bund Rallies, and display your manly bugles under your stretch polyester tan uniforms, then you are free to do so.

Thank your friends for me!

NRA membership in 1977 was about 1 million. By 1990 it was 3 million. It is now 5 million.

This would indicate you have very few friends that are firearm enthusiasts or very few firearms enthuiasts are your firends.

Governor Jerry Brown knows what's best for you. If him and the rest of the California Commie p8ssies say no guns for the good guys, then that means no guns. :hehe:

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Fine by me, although I doubt that will happen. However, I still don't like the idea of lots of stupid people carrying loaded firearms in their purses and stuck in their butt cracks like frightened little mice. Go join the National Guard, or the Reserves if you want to be a patriot or play weekend warrior. Better toys, you get paid, and you get to go to far off lands, meet strange and unusual people, and kill them.

The only ones to worry about are the bad guys with guns.

And we come full circle. Since it is a right, your opinion does not matter. You don't have to like it! And that makes me very happy!
