my husband will be here in a week (YAY) on his cr1 visa. There is a good job for him that closes tomorrow. It requires a background check and a polygraph, so the processing will take a while. He will most likely be applying - do any of you have experience with applying for jobs before the POEA? We asked for a social to be given to him, but obviously he hasnt received it yet. Anyone applied for POE without a social? He wouldnt hear back for at least a few weeks, so he could get a social by then, right?

Distance between two hearts is not an obstacle; rather a great reminder of just how strong true love can be.

As far as the social goes, sometimes ticking that "give me a SSN" box on the form works and sometimes it doesn't. So I would head into the SSA office two weeks after he arrives and apply for one. He should receive it soon after.

There is no reason why he should have to supply his SSN to an employer during the application process, although that doesn't mean they won't require it.

Most background checks start at an SSN , because that is how most of your US records are stored. If the job requires both a bg check and a polygraph are you sure that it isn't restricted to USC only ? Most jobs I know like that are related to defense contracts and those you must be a USC to get.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.
