Hey, VJ-folks. I have a brief question on my wife's last name change. I've done some research on VJ about my question, but couldn't find answer on my question.

Is this still OK to change my wife's last name (she's the beneficiary) or mention it to the interviewing officer at the time of interview? Or it's too late?

Any inputs? Thank you.

Since interview is already schedule for Dec, and will suggest you to avoid to change the last name at the very last minute. It could put some extra questions, some extra paper work, and can make some delay in visa. So better to avoid this now. Do it later when she is in US.

Hope it helps.

The visa is printed in the same name that is on the passport. Because it is required to match to be able to travel.

The green card will also be produced in the same name as on the passport. You can file an I-90 and request a name change with $450 fee when you get the green card after entry to the USA.

Iwaiting and Inky, thank you for your inputs !

My confusion came from some posters saying that's OK to send i-130, DS-260 (230) in married name, although the passport says about maiden name. But likely RFE's are guaranteed.

Still I found one VJ-member, who was asked about married name during the interview. But how this story has ended - no clue.

The name on the passport and the visa must match. In your case, you don't have time to get the pasport changed and to submit revised DS-230 at interview, so just go with the name given in DS-230 submitted to NVC - you must have submitted a copy of her passport Bio-pages with DS-230, which NVC check before completing DS-230.

In one is very particular about changing the name, one can ask for postphonement of interview, then get the name on the passport changed and go to interview with revised Ds-230. But is it worth!
