seems to me that, according to the experience of a number of vjers, that 'misplaced' files frequently turn up again, and relatively soon after they have been discovered as missing.

im going to go out on my 'superficially positive' limb and predict that the case will be found and approved within a month.

go ahead, USCIS, prove me wrong!

Yeah let's hope that turns out to be the case. Hopefully filing the N-400 doesn't make them stop looking for it (wonder if it's behind the coffee maker or under a donut box on a table - the possibilities are endless!)

USCIS is the most mysterious system in government, not accountable to any one.

I think the most amusing (or sad) aspect of the whole thing, is that they seem to always blame you even when it's something they do wrong (take illegible fingerprints, lose files).

The attitude is something along the lines of "we lost your file, so either submit it again immediately or we'll decide that you've abandoned your case!"

Actually speaking of attitudes, when I went to have my fingerprints taken, I knew they would take a long time since my fingerprints are hard to read for some reason. The grumpy woman tried a few times and then looked at me with an angry/disgusted look on her face and told me "YOU HAVE WEAK PRINTS!". She sounded so convincingly berating that I almost thought of apologizing for a seconds before I thought....wait a minute, I didn't really do anything wrong...you're the one having a hard time taking the prints you b.....USCIS...person!

You just have to call and make a case. If you view these guidelines: http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=16a6b1be1ce85210VgnVCM100000082ca60aRCRD&vgnextchannel=db029c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1RCRD

I'd request for USCIS error.

They take your information and case information over the phone (no paperwork required), and they'll get with you in about 5 days or less (it took me same day, but they said no).
