I just called the NVC and they received all our documents for case completion. However, apparently we sent in the wrong marriage certificate. We were married in Ontario and the certificate we received the day we were married is the one we sent it. The guy at the NVC told me we need one from the registrar something-or-other. What is this?? Where can I get it and does anyone know how long it will take??

That sounds strange, but I remember someone else saying they didnt know if they should send in the certificate or the liscence. We got married in my husbands country as well, and just sent in what was given to us at the time of the marriage. I'm sure someone else on here has better information.

Yes you do need to submit the certified copy that you get when your marriage is actually registered. You can apply for it from wherever it is that they keep the records. Im sorry I cant help you out there as to where that actually is in Ontario.

You sent in what you got at the time of the marriage and you didn't get an RFE?

We did not get a RFE for that. Maybe it depends on the individual country though.

You have to get it from the Registrar General of Ontario...

You need to fill out this form and send it to the Registrar General. You can request Expidited Processing due to your need for immigration. You'll need to include the letter that you got from the NVC requesting it

The link for the form is here

http://www.forms.ssb.gov.on.ca/mbs/ssb/for...File/11075E.pdf

I believe that want the "Long Form", but I would get one of each to be sure.

You can also apply for it in person at the following locations

Thank you, everyone. I feel a little better now that I know they expedite. I was about to die when I saw 6-8 weeks.

hi, when u say ontario do u mean ontario in canada? i got married in ottawa last oct. and the little piece of paper u recerived on ur wedding day is like a temp marriage certificate, u also need to apply for a formal one which takes about 8 weeks. however, for my case, we used the temp marriage certificicate when we sumitted the first form( I130). the US embassy in ottawa said it is ok and then they copied my husband and my other documents then they sent it directly to montreal. ( well, since my husband is in the army, our process is quite different so i dont know if it is because he is in the army so we can use the temp certificate) however u need to get a formal copy of marriage certificate for the interview and i am very positive on that.

anyways good luck!!!

i am a cr-1er and my interview is on march 31st, cant wait for it!!! :P

oh in addition, if u do need the formal copy of the marriage certificate for ur first step, u can push it and get one much earlier. like i said usually it takes 8 weeks, but u can push it for about 2 weeks. here is what happened to us, since my husband is in the military, so he needs to get the marriage certificate to get the house allowance so he can support me after we get married. so we cant wait for 2 months to get it. then we called the city hall in ottawa and explained our situation and then the ppl there gave us some number to call. so we got direct contact with the person who deals with marriage certificate then she told us to mail her a letter with explanation why we need it urgently and my husband's army order and fees etc. we did what she said and we got our marriage certificate in 2 weeks. hope this helps.

Sorry to hear about this but the NVC is not to good when it comes to losing things. The mail had lost one of my checklist letters and finally found it. But when I called the NVC and told them this it was already 3 weeks I was waiting for it they told me I had to wait another month then they would remail it. Come on a month to mail a peice of paper its not that hard. They can be a little hard to work with at times and the operators can be really snatty. I hope you get this worked out as its not your fault hopefully things will be worked out soon. Good luck!

Yes, we're in Ontario, Canada. Thanks for your reply, I'll definitely be looking into calling city hall today to get it expedited.

The best thing for you to do is to contact your MP or MPP. They will be able to expedite it for you. It is the Registrar General that takes care of these Certificates. I had the same problem and went directly to our MPP and they had our marriage and birth certificate expedited and recieved it in about 2 weeks.

Hope this helps.
